I Just Re-Created Dakota Johnson's Chic Party Look With High-Street Pieces
Up there with Zoë Kravitz and the Olsen twins, Dakota Johnson is one of the few celebrities who can truly make any outfit look effortlessly cool. On a night out in New York, the actress lived up to our expectations, styling a chic and delightfully easy-to-copy look. Creating the perfect canvas for a party-ready outfit, Johnson wore two unsuspecting wardrobe staples: a simple black T-shirt and a high-waisted maxi skirt. When cleverly layered with accessories and a coat, this simple base can be tweaked in myriad ways to create endless evening-ready outfit options.
A fashion editor's secret weapon, a black maxi skirt offers incalculable styling options. It can be worn with knee-high boots and and smart coat like Johnson, or can be easily dressed up with slingbacks and a silky top. What's more, you don't have to spend a fortune on the components of this outfit to look just as slick as the star does here, because I've managed to find similar alternatives from high-street stalwarts such as COS.
Whilst we know Johnson for her ability to style wardrobe staples in the chicest of ways, she’ll often surprise us by throwing a trending item into the mix. In the past, she paired a classic denim jacket with Alaïa’s viral mesh ballet flats, but on this occasion, she topped off her all-black ensemble with a shimmering golden bag. Gold accessories are re-emerging as a leading buy for winter, especially given that party season is almost upon us. Whilst glimmering gold shoes are a festive-dressing no-brainer, I’ve been doing the rounds in search of the perfect gold party bag, but I think Johnson might have beaten me to it.
As we move into the middle of November, Johnson's elegant outfit is the perfect template for smart-casual style and the ideal base for party styling when your social calender starts filling up.
To enter into winter in style, see how I've shopped out Johnson's look below.
