The 6 Summer Jackets We Keep Seeing All Over Instagram
If there's one thing that the British can't get enough of, it's the humble jacket. It's hardly surprising, considering the temperamental weather that stalks our shores. Yes, we're talking about those sneaky rain clouds that catch us off-guard when we dare to venture out in a sundress, or when the fog rolls in right when we want to take a cool sunset snap. Ah, well, if nothing else, it has afforded us a long history of excellent outwear: Just think of Burberry's iconic trench, or heritage tweed and aristocracy-approved herringbone. God bless the English summer.
But I digress. As a self-proclaimed jacket lover, I've been happy to see so many excellent styles out and about for the new season. It might only be May, but people have already cast off their winter cocoons and embraced pieces in lighter fabrics and varied colourways. This year, the jacket trends seem to sit at opposite ends of the spectrum. On one side, you have the utilitarian trenches, blazers and workwear shackets that all come in varying shades of beige. On the other side, you have crystal button–emblazoned tweed, tasselled leather and tie-dye denim.
Despite their discrepancies, the fact remains that each and every one of them will elevate your summer staples, and most importantly, are easily paired with your fave jeans at a moment's notice. What more could you want? Scroll down to see and shop the jacket trends spiking this summer.
Workwear Shackets
Style Notes: This season's newfound fascination with all things minimalist has ushered in a love for utilitarian, boxy jackets. Typically seen on the likes of Alexis Foreman, they're great for when you just need a light layer.

Tweed Jackets
Style Notes: The aristocratic classic suddenly feels so fresh thanks to the slew of Insta-fashion stars who have embraced tweed in their daytime looks. Make like Pernille and style yours with your fave jeans and a hair accessory.

Classic Trenches
Style Notes: A trench is for life; not just for spring. Whether you opt for a classic double-breasted iteration or enjoy a contemporary twist via prints or oversized silhouettes, this is one jacket you'll wear on repeat all year long.

Summer Leathers
Style Notes: Forget noughties bikers, because the leather jacket has been transformed into an altogether more subtle creature this season. Coming in butter-soft fabrics, the leather jacket now comes in the form of luxe blazers and chic, tasselled variations (hello, Ganni). Layer over a floral dress or city shorts.

Souped-Up Denim
Style Notes: We all love a good denim jacket for a light summer cover-up, and while they might've fallen out of favour over the last decade or so, the summer offering is pretty strong, thanks to new interpretations on the old school classic. We particularly love Selected Femme's belted iteration, which looks super expensive with its wide sleeves and oversized pockets.
