I'm Gen Z and Love Katie Holmes's Style—These 7 Outfits Are My Favorites

I'm a Gen Z editor, so the celebrities I pull style inspiration from may be a little obvious. Zoë Kravitz, Bella Hadid, and Hailey Bieber are the trifecta you'll often see on my mood board. A less obvious option, however? Katie Holmes. Prior to working at Who What Wear, I hadn't paid much attention to her style. Instead of Dawson's Creek, I was more occupied with One Tree Hill and Gilmore Girls. But after seeing my fellow editors report on Holmes's street style on a regular basis, I realized I was missing out. Her style may not be as flashy or revealing as other celebrities, but it's the way she always looks comfortable and put-together that catches people's eyes—mine included.

Holmes not only makes casual look cool, but her low-key outfits also never seem "dated." She has mastered this balance of mixing trends and basics. On several occasions, I've found myself wanting to re-create looks of hers from years prior, assuming they were from 2022. She also has an element of accessibility to her looks, as she mixes statement pieces from Bottega Veneta and Khaite with picks from Mango and J.Crew. Everything she wears feels wearable, which is refreshing among the extravagance of celebrity style.

I'm not the only Gen Zer paying attention to Holmes either. I've come across a few TikToks talking about her best looks, and I'm not surprised, as her previous stylist, Allison Bornstein. has become TikTok's favorite source for style inspiration with her famous "three-word method."

Below, you'll find some of my favorite style moments from Holmes. Whether she's attending a gala or running an errand in NYC, you'll want to re-create each look immediately.

Behold the viral outfit that solidified Holmes as a style icon in my eyes. Cardigan sets are the exact thing you want to wear to feel cozy but look elevated.

Fall is upon us, and Holmes has me inspired to bring on all the layers. Play around with proportions in your outfit with a long trench coat and a short blazer. I love how Holmes opted for a pair of baggier jeans over skinny ones to complete the relaxed vibe of the outfit.

I shy away from pared-back looks for fear of looking "boring," but this outfit is proof that a minimal outfit doesn't have to be boring at all. The sleek knee-high boots add the perfect finishing touch to this casual fall look.

Like I said before, Holmes knows how to mix aspirational pieces with more wearable ones. This look is proof, as she paired neon Bottega Veneta heels with an easy Canadian tuxedo. A pop of color is just what everyone's favorite denim combo needs.

With the wrong styling, suits can easily look a bit stuffy and overly formal. Holmes does the opposite by pairing hers with a pale-yellow poplin shirt and comfy white sneakers. She's not a regular mom—she's a cool mom.

Feathers can sometimes come off a little costume-like, but Holmes makes the standout trend look as classy as ever. I own a similar feather set from Sleeper and have made a mental note to style it with a pair of strappy heels and a sleek clutch. I don't have an event to wear said outfit to just yet, but I'm preparing myself in advance.

Yet again, Holmes makes a case for adding a pair of cool knee-high boots to your closet. To make the usual coat-and-boot outfit look different, she opts for baggier jeans instead of classic skinnies.

Yusra Siddiqui is an editor who resides in New Jersey but bounces between the suburbs and NYC. (She's a Jersey girl at heart.) After interning at Who What Wear in 2019, she found her way to the team after graduating from LIM College in 2022 with a fashion media degree. She's also spent time writing and working for publications such as Fashionista, Coveteur, and Nylon, but she always knew that Who What Wear was where she was meant to be. When she's on the job, she's perusing runway shows, analyzing the latest thing fellow Gen Zers are up to on the internet, and sharing what she can about the modest-fashion market. You can also catch her dabbling in entertainment, talking about the costume choices of the latest Netflix series or diving deeper into how the plotline affects the viewers in a myriad of ways. Lastly, she likes to create content for Who What Wear's TikTok. Her personal time is spent doing similar but also different things—deep diving into almost every new TV show (Bridgerton, Gilmore Girls, and Stranger Things are favorites), planning her next local getaway (whenever that may be), and reading the latest Emily Henry or Sally Rooney novel in one sitting.
