I Searched High and Low for the Best Fragrance-Free Bodywashes—Experts Agreed With These 8
Starting at $10.
If you have sensitive skin (or a sensitive nose), bodycare can be a hard category to navigate. The market is teeming with gourmand-scented bodywashes, vanilla-spiked oils, and perfumed lotions—which fragranceheads love for scent stacking—but let’s face it: These products don’t work for everyone. Or maybe you're dedicated to the perfume or lotion you apply post-shower and want zero scent interference from your bodywash. (Fair!) Whatever your reason for seeking out a fragrance-free bodywash, rest assured that there are products with the same level of sophistication (and half the time, a better ingredients list) awaiting you, sans scent.
When stripping back your bodycare routine, the first place to start is in the shower. Bodywash can be the unsuspecting catalyst behind a new crop of eczema or subtle irritation, and it's often the result of unnecessary fragrance ingredients in the formula. The good news is that your shower gel doesn't need to smell like a bundle of roses or warm sandalwood to give your skin a sudsy, sufficient scrub, and I scoured the internet to find the formulas that prove it. Below, the eight best fragrance-free shower gels for my fellow sensitive-skin havers.
The Best Fragrance-Free Bodywashes of 2026, at a Glance
- Best Overall: Nécessaire The Body Wash
- Best Budget: Dove Serum+ Sensitive Body Wash
- Best for Dry Skin: Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash
- Best for Acne-Prone Skin: Beekman 1802 Pure Goat Milk Soap
- Best for Eczema-Prone Skin: Vanicream Gentle Body Wash
Best Overall: Nécessaire The Body Wash
Pros: Hydrates deep layers of skin, calms irritation, eczema-safe
Cons: On the expensive side
Skin type: All | Key ingredients: Niacinamide, ceramides, hyaluronic acid
Our team of beauty editors is quick to shout out Nécessaire's The Body Wash as one of their top picks when it comes to unscented bodywashes. The original bodywash is one of our very favorite bodywashes ever—its eucalyptus scent perfuming our shower steam with a spa-like calm—but the fragrance-free is still a standout due to its formula.
"The best bodywashes on the market should effectively cleanse the skin and treat your specific barrier type without inspiring irritation," board-certified dermatologist Pooja Rambhia previously told Who What Wear. "It should contain moisturizing ingredients like glycerin, ceramides, or hyaluronic acid to prevent dryness, while avoiding potentially irritating ingredients such as strong fragrances and harsh preservatives." This sudsing formula checks the boxes with a hydrating gel chock-full of ceramides, hyaluronic acid, plus a bevy of other nourishing ingredients that leave the skin supple, smooth, and unbothered.
Customer review: "First of all, super impressed with this body wash, I had high hopes because I read so many amazing reviews, and it’s really worth it. I have always had dry skin issues; most of the body washes I have used before will strip my skin and make it super dry, but this one is very smooth on the skin and very hydrating. I love the fact that it’s fragrance-free because I’m not a huge fan of heavily scented skincare. I would definitely recommend this to those who have dry, rough skin helps a lot!"
Best Budget: Dove Serum+ Sensitive Body Wash
Pros: Just $10, minimal ingredients, lathers well
Cons: None we can think of
Skin type: All | Key ingredient: Glycerin
Beauty Director Erin Jahns is quick to recommend this minimalist serum bodywash from Dove whenever this topic comes up. "I love this one," she cooed over its stripped-back formula, which only includes 10 essential cleansing ingredients. (If this sounds like a lot to you, I invite you to peek at the ingredients list on the back of your other cleansing products and take in the novel of chemical names printed there.) The pH-neutral formula ensures that even the most sensitive skin can find soothing comfort in this sleek white bottle, which suds up into a nice lather for that extra-clean feeling. (Another hard-to-find quality in the clean soap space!)
Customer review: "Amazing for sensitive skin! This body wash is a game-changer. I love that it only has 10 ingredients, which makes it feel super safe and gentle on my sensitive skin. It leaves my skin feeling incredibly moisturized, soft, and clean without any irritation or tight feelings."
Best for Dry Skin: Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash
Pros: Budget-friendly price, deeply hydrating ingredients, nice lather
Cons: Nothing to report here
Skin type: All | Key ingredients: Oat extract, glycerin, hyaluronic acid
One of the best bodywashes for dry skin is Aveeno's Skin Relief Body Wash, but we especially love that it has zero traces of fragrance in its simple formula. The under-$10 bodywash is made with a bespoke complex of nourishing ingredients, including ceramides, proteins, and hyaluronic acid, for a deeply hydrating experience while still effectively cleansing rough skin. Oat extract and glycerin offer ample glide and satisfactory nourishment, doubling as a slick shaving gel and keeping the skin from feeling stripped after toweling off. Oh, and did I mention it's just $10? What's not to love?
Customer review: "It gently cleanses my skin and leaves it feeling soft, smooth and refreshed. I love that it helps keep my skin moisturized without feeling dry after showering. It is gentle and comfortable to use every day. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a soothing body wash for dry skin."
Best for Acne-Prone Skin: Beekman 1802 Pure Goat Milk Soap
Pros: Natural ingredients, non-irritating vegetable base, lasts longer than shower gel
Cons: May not be ideal for people who prefer shower gels or other liquid mediums
Skin type: All | Key ingredients: Goat milk, glycerin, shea butter
People with acne-prone skin know the struggle of trying a new scented bodycare product and watching their blemishes spring back into effect. The dermatologist solution? Beekman 1802's Goat Milk Soap. "Glycerin, goat milk, jojoba seed oil, meadowfoam seed oil, and shea butter hydrate the skin, support the skin barrier, and help to lock in moisture," board-certified dermatologist Hadley King, MD, previously told WWW. "Honey and aloe add additional soothing properties, and there are no harsh detergents that strip the skin's moisture." Sensitive-skin friendly and boosted with lactic acid to rid the barrier of pesky breakouts, this bar soap does it all.
Customer review: "Chemical-free and soft on your skin! Love the Beekman 1802 Pure products."
Best for Eczema-Prone Skin: Vanicream Gentle Body Wash
Pros: Free from a large variety of allergens, cost-effective, approved by the National Eczema Association
Cons: Doesn't lather well
Skin type: All | Key ingredient: Glycerin
When you are prone to eczema, every formula you slather onto your skin—from your bodywash to your lotions—has to be intentional and conditioning. Such is the case with Vanicream's Gentle Body Wash: a dermatologist-recommended product and recipient of the National Eczema Association's Seal of Acceptance Award. "Choose fragrance-free formulas with minimal ingredients," board-certified dermatologist Naana Boakye, MD, previously told WWW. Vanicream's formula is decidedly light, boasting a small handful of mild ingredients that target scaly, itchy skin and general dryness. Boakye added that colloidal oatmeal, niacinamide, and sunflower oil are additional ingredients to keep an eye out for when targeting eczema specifically.
Customer review: "For the past few years I have [been] searching for a body wash that is gentle for my sensitive skin and above all, unscented. I recently ordered this product, and it is wonderful! I love that it does not irritate my skin and that it does not have any scent! I feel so clean after using this body wash, which I use with my scrubbie. My body chemistry has changed due to menopause, and my sense of smell has also been impacted due to COVID. Because of these changes, body washes that smelled great on me now smell horrible! Thus my search for a new body wash, and at long last, I found the Vanicream Body Wash for Sensitive Skin in Unscented. I hope and pray this product will not be discontinued or the formula changed."
Best for Keratosis Pilaris: CeraVe Salicylic Acid Body Wash
Pros: Gently exfoliates, mild ingredients, hydrating formula
Cons: Not suitable for people with sensitive skin
Skin type: Dry, acne-prone, oily | Key ingredients: Salicylic acid, ceramides, hyaluronic acid
KP, or keratosis pilaris, is the name for those itchy, rough red bumps that can develop on the skin as a result of a buildup of keratin (the layer that protects your skin). Luckily, these bumps can be sloughed away with a gentle exfoliating product like CeraVe's Salicylic Acid Body Wash, which Rahmbia recommends for its ability to smooth bumpy skin without irritation. It's spiked with salicylic acid that chemically sweeps away buildup, while ceramides and hyaluronic acid offer extra nourishment—leaving you with sleek, smooth skin without the extra irritants of scent.
Customer review: "With menopause came very rough and bumpy skin on my upper arms, chest, and neck. I've tried EVERYTHING under the sun, spent a ton of money, and nothing has worked. I started using the CeraVe rough and bumpy cream about 8 days ago (I've read it can take several weeks for results), and I started seeing a change, which was wonderful because I had zero results from hundreds (no exaggeration) of other creams and lotions. […] That night I took a shower and used an exfoliating sponge with the CeraVe body wash and OMG! My skin was so soft, and many of the rough and bumpy spots were gone. I was ecstatic. I immediately put the CeraVe Rough and Bumpy Cream on all the usual spots, and by morning it was like I had new skin. Truly amazing."
Best for Rough Skin: Naturium Multi-Peptide Advanced Body Wash
Pros: Firms skin, gently exfoliates, can double as face wash
Cons: A bit pricey for the size
Skin type: All | Key ingredients: Glycerin, vitamin E, coconut surfactants
If your skin needs a little bit of polishing (dry patches, rough spots, random scales, what have you), WWW beauty editor Kaitlyn McLintock wants you to add this Naturium bodywash to your shower routine. This creamy formula is powered by coconut-derived surfactants that gently slough and smooth the skin, while glycerin and vitamin E work hard to soften and hydrate the fresh skin beneath the buildup. It's also known for its firming benefits, which can be great for anyone with mature or crepey skin.
Customer review: "I absolutely love the Multi-Peptide Advanced Body Wash! My skin feels so soft, hydrated, and looks beautiful after using! I use a couple times a week as a hydrating face mask, I'll usually leave on for a few minutes. I also sometimes use as a face wash when my retinaldehyde serum causes dryness. The bottle lasts a while because I rotate with my other body washes, Glow Getter Multi Oil Body Wash, and Salicylic Acid body wash. This product has been great for me!"
Best 2-in-1: La Roche-Posay Lipikar Wash AP+ Gentle Foaming Moisturizing Wash
Pros: Noncomedogenic, hydrates skin for up to 24 hours, accepted by National Eczema Organization
Cons: No complaints here
Skin type: All | Key ingredients: Niacinamide, shea butter, glycerin
Sorry for the two-in-one jump scare. This gentle, unscented bodywash does double time as a facial cleanser as well, making it a great option for people who want a no-frills, ultra-simplified routine. The formula creates a satisfactory suds, which always makes us feel cleaner when we rinse off afterward. Though it never leaves the skin feeling tight or stripped thanks to its nourishing blend of shea butter, glycerin, and the brand's famous prebiotic thermal water. This is yet another bodywash that's been accepted to the National Eczema Organization, making it a great option for those experiencing flare-ups on their faces, as well.
Customer review: "I have eczema so I need something gentle on my skin. This is fantastic for me and this will be added to my routine to keep my eczema in check."
What to Look For in Fragrance-Free Bodywashes
- No notable scent: Hi, Captain Obvious. Detergents and parfum ingredients should never be present in a fragrance-free formula—it not only defeats the purpose of the bodywash but also presents a slew of new irritants to skin that may already be sensitive to such things. Hard pass.
- Hydrating ingredients: While some of the unscented bodywashes we've listed include surfactants and gentle exfoliants like the CeraVe Salicylic Acid Body Wash or the Naturium Multi-Peptide Advanced Body Wash, every formula keeps hydration at the forefront. This not only conditions the skin while it's wet but offers long-term nourishment long after you've dried off and gone about your day—keeping your skin supple, clear, and irritation-free, as unscented formulas should.
- Simple formulas: In the absence of detergents, ingredient lists in the bodywash realm become comparatively short. If you have sensitive skin, keep an eye out for very simple ingredients when picking out your next shower gel. Dermatologists and editors recommend options like the Dove Serum+ Sensitive Body Wash (which has 10 ingredients total) and Beekman 1802 Pure Goat Milk Soap (just 11).
