According to Hairstylists, These Are the Chicest Shades of Blonde for Spring
From lived-in roots to frosty highlights, it’s time to switch up your blonde for something fresh. These are the chicest trends I've spotted.
What is it about spring’s imminent arrival that has us all pondering the same thing: is it time to take our hair colour lighter? Yes, the minute those first glimmers of sunshine start emerging, colourists up and down the country start rolling up their sleeves, ready for an influx of clients requesting lighter, spring hair colours for the season ahead. And this season, the options are endless.
For those who like their colour to be low-maintenance, there are lived-in faded blonde hues, diffused highlights, and soft golden tones for an effortless feel, while there’s also a more polished approach to going blonde with icy champagne tones, frosty colour blocking and high-shine finishes. So whether you’re craving a full hair transformation or more of a subtle shift, consider this your guide to the best blonde hair colours for spring.
1. Folklore Blonde
Spotted on the streets of Copenhagen Fashion Week, Christel Barron-Hough, award-winning colourist and founder of Stil Salon, is bookmarking folklore blonde as one of the coolest hair colour trends of the year. “Visible roots will be a huge trend as we head into spring,” she explains. “Folklore blonde is all about allowing the natural cycle of hair growth to take centre stage.” The result is a really effortless look where fresh colour already looks slightly faded and relaxed.
“In salon, we would use a solar-infused technique to create a blurry, veil-like transition in the hair, as if the colour has naturally diffused over time,” Barron-Hough explains. “This isn’t about ‘90s grunge roots though; the result should be more organic, soft-focus and modern."
2. Powdered Pearl
It will come as no surprise to anyone that we’ll be seeing the Wuthering Heights effect on the upcoming season’s trending looks, and as for hair, it’s Margot Robbie’s soft, romantic blonde that will be dominating in salons. “I see a muted powdered pearl blonde trending for 2026 with Margot’s hair as the ultimate inspiration,” says Nicole Kahlani, Concept Colourist at Hershesons Fitzrovia. “It’s about embracing more ash-blonde undertones and has an almost 18th-century feel with a more matte, dense finish.”
Unlike more contemporary blonde hair trends, which often focus on adding dimension through highlights and diffusion of colour, Kahlani points out that this look would be best achieved with a global application of colour. “We’re taking inspiration from that period in time where there wasn’t a dimension or multiple tones. The goal is to achieve an almost antique feel,” she explains.
3. Silver Cashmere
If you like a cooler tone to your blonde, then silver cashmere blonde is one to watch for spring. “In uncertain times, people always seem to want lighter hair, and silver cashmere blonde is a really cool direction for 2026,” explains James Earnshaw, hair stylist, colourist and Wella global ambassador. “Smokey and weightless, rather than icy or grey, we’d create this look by glossing hair with a sheer pearl toner so that it doesn’t look heavy or overly toned but reflects the light perfectly.”
Earnshaw recommends using a sulphate-free shampoo to maintain your best blonde, and this one from Pureology is also 100% vegan and purple-toned to counteract brassiness.
This colour really benefits from an ultra-shiny finish, and this hair gloss treatment adds a glassy finish.
4. Dimensional Warmth
There are two elements to this blonde hair colour trend—the layering of different shades and sunny warmth. “Post-winter hair tends to look quite dry and not as light reflective, so blondes should look to add an element of warmth into their hair as we move into spring to help it look more hydrated and glossy,” explains Siobhan Haug, colour specialist and co-founder of Haug London Haus. “For this trend we’ll be looking at adding a second dimension into hair to create depth through the mid-lengths to enhance shine; think honey blondes, caramel blondes, satin blondes, golden tones and soft champagne reflects,” she explains.
5. Barn Blonde
Hate having to touch up your colour frequently? Barn blonde is the easiest, breeziest option for spring. “This look is part of the colour melting family, but with a more pronounced dark blonde root,” explains Kahlani. “Barn blonde is quite a sandy, blonde-taupe—neither too warm nor too ashy—and feels like an effortlessly dreamy, countryside blonde that’s fluffy and youthful.” In other words, this look is all about embracing a natural approach to blonde that feels beautifully lived-in.
6. Smoky Platinum
“This colour trend is about embracing grey hair with confidence and celebrating women looking chic and radiant at 50 and beyond,” says Kahlani. Look to Kate Moss and Pamela Anderson as inspiration for this look. “Both are famous for their iconic ‘90s blonde looks, but have moved past warm golden shades and transitioned into ashy, cooler, smokey-chic blondes that feel fresh, modern and sophisticated,” says Kahlani, who recommends investing in a silver conditioner to maintain the frosty colour.
This nourishing hair mask will refresh your cool colour in mere minutes.
