The Princess Diaries Turns 15! See Anne Hathaway's Perfect Tribute

Can you believe it’s been 15 years since The Princess Diaries came out? That’s right—the now cult flick with Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews, Mandy Moore, and other lovable stars is officially older than your teenage niece. Raise your hand if you still say “princess of Genovia” in Andrews’s accent and have memorized some of the movie’s most quotable lines, like “Just in case I wasn’t enough of a freak already, let’s add a tiara.”

In honor of the 15th anniversary today, Hathaway took to Instagram to post a sweet tribute—and a hilariously nostalgic GIF. “It’s been 15 years (say it with me) SHUT UP!!!!!” she captioned the photo. “To all the fans who have loved Mia, Louie, Lily, Joe, Michael and, of course, Queen Clarisse, thank you from the bottom of my heart!” She finished the caption with a touching note to the movie’s late director, who passed away last month. “And to Garry Marshall, thank you for making me a princess. I love you always my beloved friend and teacher, and I miss you every day.”

Erin Fitzpatrick
Senior News Editor

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 12 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of senior news editor (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
