Over the past few seasons, "practical" outerwear—we're talking windbreakers, fleece jackets, etc.—has been having a serious moment. These classic staples you would typically associate with outdoorsy activities, such as hiking or camping, have now become a stylish (and of course, functional) street style necessity fashion girls and celebs have been wearing on repeat, thanks, in part, to the rise of the ever-popular "ugly" is "pretty" trend. (Here, more styles that fall into that category.) To be quite honest, we're certainly on-board with many of these so-called "ugly" pieces, because, in addition to now being considered fashion-forward, they are also so darn functional and comfortable.

There was Kaia Gerber's cool windbreaker-and-turtleneck look she was photographed wearing in Paris—sort of chic, no? And certainly perfect for a rainy fall day, but now, we're betting that the supersoft, plush fleece jackets will gain in the ranks this season, becoming the new must-have outerwear staple that can be as fashionable as it is weather-defying. You just have to think outside of the box when it comes to styling it.

For example, pair a classic oatmeal-colored Patagonia fleece with a lace tank top, leather leggings, and white ankle boots. You'll stay warm and cozy, and look oh so cool as well. Or how about teaming a burnt-orange jacket with a crisp white tee, wide-leg jeans, and cool sculptural heeled pumps? Really, there are so many styling possibilities, so let your imagination run wild because fashion is supposed to be fun.

Ahead, shop our favorite plush fleece jackets that all ring in at under $200. Trust us—this staple will stay in your closet for many, many seasons.
