8 Throwback Jewellery Trends You're About to See Everywhere Again

The power of jewellery is truly unmatched. Not only does it complete an outfit, it often manages to make you feel complete—these days, if I forget to put on one of my usual stack of chains, it bothers me for the whole day. But while I may tend to fall back on relying on my daily go-tos, I still keep an eye on the trends. And after some extensive scrolling on Instagram, it seems to me that, lo and behold, it's the jewellery trends of my childhood that are back in fashion.

Yes, the 90s are back in full force when it comes to accessories. Having already made their impact on fashion—anyone else seen the pedal pusher comeback?—the decade has quietly been making their return in the world of jewellery. From velvet chokers to stacks of bracelets, cord necklaces to the summer-ready anklet, some of your favourite nostalgic pieces are very much back en vogue. Of course, while you can go full retro, there are plenty of designs that have put a modern twist on the throwback styles, courtesy of brands ranging from Alighieri to COS.

Here, I've pulled the top throwback trends I predict you'll be seeing everywhere this spring/summer—and a few picks to help you get ahead of the crowd.

1. Stacked Wrists

Style Notes: Bracelets are back, and in a big way. Forget the single delicate band—this season, more is more. Stack your wrist with a series of delicate bangles and chains in a mix of metals, or make a serious statement with an iconic 90s piece: the arm cuff.

2. Anklets

Style Notes: Is there anything more 90s than anklets? The ankle adornment is back this summer with a glamorous refresh. Think intricate chains with small gems or dots of colour. Of course, you could go full nostalgia with a multi-strand style complete with freshwater pearls and neon charms.

3. Chokers

Style Notes: Nothing takes me back to my teenage-hood like a choker. These days, influencers are proving its fashion credentials by opting for seriously elevated takes, whether that's a truly nostalgic velvet style—bonus points if it has a charm attached—or glamorous iterations adorned with plenty of sparkle.

4. Chandelier Earrings

Style Notes: If you're looking for a way to refresh your favourite evening dress for your next event, this could be your answer. Bold and sparkling, chandelier earrings do all the work for you in making any outfit look super glamorous—just look at how the likes of Cindy Crawford used them on the red carper back in the 90s.

5. Charms

Style Notes: Want full nostalgia? Welcome back the charm. Kitsch is cool again with this season's renewed love for these dangling adornments—think hearts, crosses, and just in time for holiday season, nautical-inspired pieces. Want to keep it from going too retro? Stick to just one charm, and layer with your favourite other chains to keep things understated.

6. OTT Hoops

Style Notes: Take inspiration from Destiny's Child, TLC and other iconic 90s girl groups and decide that this year, the bigger the hoop, the better. If you want to put a contemporary twist on the trend, opt for sculptural iterations that add artistic detail.

7. Cord Necklaces

Style Notes: Yes, cord is cool again. Stylish insiders are fully embracing the laidback look of a simple cord necklace with a statement adornment, whether that's a spring-appropriate flower or a 90s-era heart. Wear yours with denim and a classic t-shirt, or with your favourite breezy summer dress.

8. Nameplate Necklaces

Style Notes: Say it with your chest with a nameplate necklace. Inspired by hip hop icons and, of course, Ms Carrie Bradshaw, a nameplate necklace is the ultimate irreverent jewellery piece that works just as well alone as it does layered with your favourite chains.
