Can We Talk About Scandinavian Street Style?
Even without the influence of this month's Copenhagen Fashion Week bringing Scandi style to the top of our social feeds, street style from the far, far north has been on our minds the same way French and Italian style has been captivating our attention. So much so that we're convinced Scandinavia will have more and more influence in the fashion sphere due to the abundance of bloggers and creatives that sweep the internet with their unique approach to dressing.
While we love the well-known Scandi girls (from Pernille to Elin), lately we've been spellbound by the young Scandinavian fashion blogger Sophia Roe of Roe Diary. Roe always dresses with an artistic flair, while flaunting her seriously drool-worthy collection of accessories, so Who What Wear Australia reached out to her to ask how she views her style. "Women in Scandinavia, including myself, like to dress practical and comfortable in a fashionable way. On the street, you will never see a woman in super high heels and a tight dress, at least not on a weekday, but she will always be aware of her appearance."
Roe explains it's not always skin-baring or sculpted pieces that capture attention though."The key is to be understated chic. The Scandis like to dress effortlessly by choosing classic items made with quality fabrics like a T-shirt and pairing with a piece with unique details that stands out, such as an eye-catching accessory or a bold print."
As for imitating celebrity trends, Roe tends to rely on her best judgement: "I think you should always follow your own style and most women know from experience what suits them best. I guess 'come and go' trends influence me in some way, but if I don't like it, I don't wear it." It's quite possible that the Scandi style has already evolved our daily dose of style inspiration and before we know it we'll be embodying signature looks.
