There’s something about the start of a new year that prompts the desire to refresh that wardrobe. For Susie Wright, that starts with a closet clean-out to ultimately uncover new trends to mix into her rotation. Given that we turn to Wright on the regular for style advice given her fashion experience as a former Nordstrom buyer and current stylist and blogger with So Susie, we wanted to inquire about the 2022 trends she’s eager to try. On the flip side, we also wanted to know about the pieces she’s not as into because they don’t quite work with her current style. Of course, remember that it’s all based on preference, and you should always wear what you personally love.

Below you’ll uncover the trends Wright is loving and not as into. There’s everything from of-the-moment tailoring finds to chic footwear silhouettes. Who knows? Perhaps the list below will spark some inspiration for your wardrobe this year. Keep scrolling for more, along with visual inspiration and shopping picks.

Wearing: Vests

Won't Wear as Much: Super-Chunky Knits

On Wright: & Other Stories vest

"Vests are super stylish, easy to wear, and they add a layer of extra warmth. This comeback piece is so versatile. Throw it on over a tee or a long-sleeved blouse, pick a solid or a pattern, choose a sweater or a puffer or a knit. Whatever you do, have fun with it!”

Wearing: Relaxed Blazers

Won't Wear as Much: Fitted Blazers

On Wright: Cinq à Sept blazer

"Come 2022, I know I’ll prefer something a bit relaxed with my denim. A slightly oversize blazer feels more updated and casual, less uptight. This is one of my top three fave pieces. I wear mine with almost everything.”

Wearing: Easy Dresses

Won't Wear as Much: "Naked" Dresses

On Wright: Vince dress

"Moving into spring I’ll be wearing lighter-weight knit dresses, but definitely skipping the ‘naked’ dress trend.”

Wearing: Cutouts

Won't Wear as Much: Too Many Cutouts

On Wright: L’Agence sweater

"I love the cutout trend, but for some of us, it can be a little tricky to wear, which is why I’m sticking to just a hint of skin!”

Wearing: Wide-Leg Denim

Won't Wear as Much: Skinny Jeans

On Wright: Fidelity jeans

"Yep, I said it—I’m rarely wearing skinnies these days. There’s nothing wrong with them, I'm just into wider-leg denim. The debate continues!”

Wearing: Neutral Booties

Won't Wear as Much: Standard Black Booties

On Wright: Black Suede Studio boots

"I like a lighter-colored boot after wearing heavy boots all winter—mostly black of course. In 2022, go lighter. Plus, they’re so versatile, you’ll wear them every day!”

Wearing: Animal-Printed Blouses

Won't Wear as Much: Jewel-Tone Blouses

On Wright: Reformation top

"Animal print is here to stay, so in 2022, I’ll be trying different patterns of any kind. This ocelot print is new and different, and will look amazing with denim or black.”
