We Can't Wait Another Day to Wear These Autumn Pieces

It’s been the hottest summer on record, and our wardrobes are starting to suffer. We’ve exhausted every floral dress we own (a lot), worn in our sandals and even brought out the kind of super-beachy pieces usually delegated to our “strictly holiday” wardrobe. And we have to admit we’re missing our usual clothes. Yes, we love the sun, but this heat is making our closets work harder than ever before. The pieces we usually live in all year around—trainers, loafers, leather jackets, blazers, jeans and more—have all been neglected for the past few months in favour of wearing as little clothing as possible while still trying to keep our dignity intact on the Central Line.

While on vacation last week we started reminiscing (yes, it’s that bad) about our pre–heat wave wardrobe and talking about the pieces we can’t wait to wear again. We know we’ll miss it when it’s gone, but if there’s one bonus about normal temperatures resuming in the UK, it’s the use of our favourite clothes again. I finally gave into the chunky trainer trend and purchased the Balenciaga Triple S sneakers in June, and they instantly elevated my outfits. They made everything instantly cooler, including my floral midi dresses and my cropped skinny jeans. I was obsessed and barely took them off, so I can’t wait to get them back on my feet. Luckily for me, the trend is showing no signs of going anywhere, and I’ll be wearing them all autumn long.

Most of my outfits are finished off with a blazer. They work for the office, for meetings and even for nights out. Any time I need a smart/casual look, a blazer is the first thing I reach for, and I feel confident wearing them. A blazer dresses up my casual look of jeans and trainers and dresses down a sexy dress and heels. It’s my ultimate fashion hero, and I miss mine.

I invested in a white pair of Balenciaga’s Knife boots last winter and didn’t feel I got as much wear out of them as I hoped. I’ve since seen so many street style inspiration pics on Pinterest and Tumblr, and I’m looking forward to trying out the looks I’ve noticed that have made me fall in love with them all over again.

The biker jacket is my ultimate fashion staple. My go-to and the piece that completes my looks, I’ve missed chucking my leather biker on over everything. I even packed it for last week’s trip to Mykonos, as I was told it was the windy island, but no, not that windy, so it remained unworn in my suitcase. When the temperature drops, it will be the first piece I reach for.

A hoodie is like my comfort blanket, and I’ve missed slipping one on while running errands. It’s even been too hot in the evenings to wear one. It’s why we launched our own on A Style Album in June, but we’ve not managed to wear them lately, so I can’t wait to reach for it again.
