An L.A. Fashion Editor Walks Into Nordstrom—She's Walking Out With These Fall Finds
After a record-breaking heat wave in Los Angeles, the temperatures have cooled and the first signs of fall are here. Though we don't typically get the changing of the leaves (there's far too many palm trees for that), fall in L.A. is one of my favorite times of year. Contrary to what everyone thinks, it does actually get cool here—especially at night—so it's exciting to start layering again and actually wear the boots that have been tucked away in the back of my closet. However, with every new season, it's a time to reevaluate your wardrobe and add a refresh. That's why I spent hours scrolling on Nordstrom to pinpoint the best fall finds that I can see myself incorporating into my seasonal looks.
From versatile cardigans and skirts to classic ballet flats and Levi's jeans, the 35 items below are easy and stylish, all the while giving off cozy fall vibes. The mix of materials in this season also adds so much interest to an otherwise simple ensemble, like chunky knits, leather, suede, corduroy, houndstooth, cashmere, and so much more. If you're looking for an autumnal closet reset, this is your sign to browse the forthcoming designs and start your fall fashion journey.
Adding a belt to your trousers or jeans is a simple way to dress them up.
Mesh flats aren't going anywhere, and I'm loving this affordable fishnet version.
Silver jewelry has a hold on me, and this pebble-like necklace is something I can definitely add into my rotation.
Get the layered look without actually layering. This contrast sweater is it.
The length of this skirt is perfection. Wear it to work—and for the happy hour drinks later.
For a low-key casual moment, opt for a pair of distressed jeans to go with your cute sweater.
I'm loving rugby stripes at the moment, and this color combo is stunning.
Transitional temperatures are basically synonymous with trench coats.
Crochet isn't just for summer. There's something so irresistible about wearing it in the fall, and this olive shade definitely works for the season.
The silver hardware on this soft suede bag adds some edgy contrast.
This shirred tank will get so much use in your fall wardrobe.
A maxi skirt but make it fall. This cargo version would look amazing with a button-up and boots.
This deep-V dress is ripe for a cool layering moment or you can wear it on its own for a more daring look.
A simple turtleneck in a comfortable fabric is a must.
The contrast stitching on this cashmere jacket is so eye catching.
A blazer that fits just right will go a loooong way in your wardrobe.
Channel your inner Gossip Girl with a preppy button-up that you can wear a million different ways.
Just because the weather is cooler, doesn't mean you need to ditch your shorts. You can wear these silk shoes with loafers and white crew socks and a knit cardigan.
YSL's "Manhattan" bag has such a great shape and elevates any outfit.
Lauren Adhav is a freelance fashion editor based in Los Angeles. Originally from Orlando, Florida, she always wanted to work at a fashion magazine. After finally getting an internship at Town & Country in 2015, she moved to New York City and continued to get her footing in the industry with stints at Cosmopolitan, W magazine, Harper's Bazaar, and Moda Operandi. In 2017, she returned to Cosmo full time, starting off as the beauty and fashion editorial assistant and working her way to fashion editor. She contributed to both the website and print issues, pitching new ideas, forecasting trends, covering red carpet events, and informing the overall coverage and brand voice. After five years in NYC, she moved to the West Coast for the sunshine and the change of pace. As a freelance fashion editor, she still contributes to Cosmo and now Who What Wear. She's always trying to get ahead of the next big trend before it goes mainstream and loves discovering fashion brands with a unique point of view (Chopova Lowena, Sandy Liang, and Bode being some of her current favorites). She also spends an unhealthy amount of time online shopping for the perfect piece, and now that she's in L.A., she's rediscovering her soft spot for malls. On the weekends, you can find her walking around the Silver Lake Reservoir, trying to catch up on her tan at Venice Beach, and probably ordering a Chinese chicken salad at Joan's on Third.
