We Went Street Style–Spotting in London—These 11 Outfits Were Next-Level Good

The early days of October might mark the beginning of autumn, but they also bring about the end of fashion month. By now, we've regaled you with trend roundups from each of the four fashion month cities—New York, London, Milan and Paris—and our bumper, biannual report documenting the runway trends to keep in mind for S/S 23 is already underway. However, as we took in the shows and scouted guest looks during the London quadrant of fashion month, we also hit the streets of the capital to shoot for our regular street style franchise.

Of course, we could have focused our efforts on show attendees, documenting the wares they've painstakingly assembled for the occasion. And while we always love bearing witness to some impressive outfits outside the venues strewn across the city, we like to balance this out and pull the focus back to what people are wearing just because they love it (and not because it ups their chances of going viral).

When it comes to fashion that's more than a social media moment, London always delivers. Whenever we're in need of some outfit or article inspiration, we can count on the city's stylish inhabitants to provide us with it in droves. And on a crisp September day, we found some of our favourite looks to date.

Although we met people with very different aesthetics, there were a few trends that kept cropping up, which give us a depiction of the general fashion mood in London right now. From all-black ensembles to a penchant for faux fur, here are the outfits Londoners are prioritising as we head into autumn.

Style Notes: London women know the important role denim plays on a fashion-forward wardrobe, which is why they're always looking for fresh ways to wear the fabrication. Rosemary has taken the outerwear approach with a vintage denim trench coat.

'Tis the season of fabulous jackets and coats (as evidenced above), and Elena's Dondup jacket is no exception. Trimmed with feathers, this could easily be relegated to the going-out section of your wardrobe, but Elena makes it work for daytime wear with a pair of Zara jeans and chunky Stradivarius boots.

Style Notes: Like dresses, co-ords make for an easy solution when you're just not up to the task of assembling an outfit from scratch. All you need to worry about are your shoes and bag. Still, that doesn't mean you can't flex your fashion muscles in terms of styling. Take journalist Angela—she styled her yellow check jacket-and-skirt set with a pair of Prada boots and an especially cool Chanel handbag.

Style Notes: As alluded in the intro, we spotted a lot of sleek, all-black outfits in during our September style search. First up was Yijia, whose Yohji Yamamoto ensemble is made even cooler with the addition of Dr. Marten boots. Talk about a British style staple.

Style Notes: Leopard print was a key trend on the A/W 22 runways, with everyone from Stella McCartney to Celine showcasing looks in the animal motif. However, you needn't stick to traditional beige colourways, as stylist Jordan proves. Her green SilkFred dress is nothing short of fabulous!

Style Notes: London might be a large city, but sometimes it can feel much smaller. That was the case when we bumped into influencer Gigi of @bygigivassallo, who was more than happy to talk us through her luxe leather look, featuring a New Look coat and a Charles & Keith handbag. It proves our theory that you don't need to spend a fortune for an outfit to look expensive.

Style Notes: While Hayley's entire outfit is flawless, it was her gorgeous Prada bag that immediately caught our eye. Then, taking it all in, it reads like a play-by-play of the season's top trends. Ribbed flare trousers, check. A sharp blazer, check. Chunky flats, check.

Style Notes: You know the age-old saying, "Friends who dress together stay together"? Well, it goes something like that. Anyway, we could learn a thing or two from Oksana and Ольга, who make a case for trench coats, trainers and Breton stripes with their respective, matchy-but-not-too-matchy outfits.

Style Notes: Mark our words: Cape-style outerwear is going to be huge this winter. Worn over anything from white shirts and wide-leg jeans, as seen above, to knitted dresses, the silhouette will help make your outfits look more polished.

Style Notes: British women are adept at styling trainers. And right now, be it on the Tube or, indeed, on the streets, everyone seems to be favouring Nike Air Force kicks. Integral to the Y2K aesthetic that's still dominating TikTok and causing ripple effects across designer collections. Influencer Lauren of @lozvassallo further commits to the trend with Varenne Official cargo trousers, a leather jacket and a Prada shoulder bag.

Style Notes: The most intuitive dressers know how to get sufficient wear out of everything they own, blurring the lines between seasons in the process. Take Ting, who has basically given us a masterclass in styling our summer dresses for autumn. Just add riding-style boots and a thick purl cardigan.
