Flat Footwear Is the Moment—32 Pairs to Live Your Life in This Winter
When even my friends who truly thrive in stilettos are dabbling in loafers, I know I can safely report that there's really something to this flat-footwear trend. I would like to add that it's extremely rude that the internet is suddenly providing all the flat shoes my heart could ever desire—right when I've finally taken it upon myself to cull my footwear down to just a handful of perfect styles. But I digress.
Even if you can't imagine your work wardrobe sans heels, allow me to introduce you to some flat footwear that will (at the very least) keep things chic on your winter commute.
From Mary Janes to ballet flats, loafers to slingbacks, metallic styles to sneakers, these 32 pairs just might make you think twice about stealthily changing out of them under your desk.
Glove Flats
This fall, glove flats crafted from supple leather with a snug, glove-like fit are poised to take the fashion world by storm. These sleek shoes feature a slim design and are available in various styles, from square to pointed-toe. What's truly exciting is their versatility—they effortlessly complement maxi skirts, jeans, and minidresses, making them a must-have for any fashion-forward individual.
These are sitting in my cart to purchase once I finally decide between the ivory and the black.
Mary Janes
Mary Janes are a staple for French fashion girls, offering a timeless and elegant look. This summer, we observed a surge in the popularity of Mary Janes featuring mesh materials, providing a breathable and lightweight option for warmer weather. However, as we transition into the fall and winter seasons, we expect to see a shift toward Mary Jane shoes crafted from luxurious leather and cozy suede. These materials not only offer durability and sophistication but also provide warmth and comfort during the cooler months.
Ballet Flats
Embrace the preppy-chic fashion trend with a pair of ballet flats. These versatile and comfortable shoes are perfect for both casual and semi-formal occasions. They come in a variety of colors and materials, allowing you to find the perfect pair to complement your outfit.
Never not controversial but always a vibe.
These are great in burgundy, and there are maybe a few pairs in tan left if you hurry.
Loafers
Loafers are a timeless and versatile footwear choice that exudes sophistication and style, making them synonymous with fall fashion. Whether you prefer chunky lug-sole loafers for a more rugged look or sleek driving styles for a touch of elegance, these polished shoes are true wardrobe workhorses.
These classics also come in a cognac colorway that deserves a peep.
Sneakers
Sneakers are a fail-safe option when you're unsure what shoes to wear. They're comfortable, cute, and classic. For a few seasons now, slim vintage-inspired sneakers have taken the reigns as the top sneaker trend, and we anticipate that they will continue for the fall and into 2025, so if you don't already have a pair, look to brands like Gola, Jeffrey Campbell, and Zara for the best options.
Slingbacks
In my humble opinion, slingback shoes are the best choice to create a rich-looking outfit because they offer a perfect balance of elegance and comfort. Plus, the exposed heel adds an element of allure, while the pointed or rounded toe shapes offer a timeless appeal.
Mesh Flats
Mesh flats have become a favorite among fashion-forward individuals for several reasons. Not only are they cute and stylish, but they also offer a unique way to showcase a little extra skin. To seamlessly transition these trendy shoes from summer to fall, consider pairing them with a chic pleated skirt or a flowing maxi dress, and then add a pair of tights or ankle socks to keep your feet warm.
Cozy Flats
No matter the season, having a pair of cozy flats in your wardrobe is essential. They're particularly important when you want to keep your feet warm and comfortable during the colder months. While you can find a range of slippers, investing in a pair of elevated fur flats is an excellent choice, as they can be worn inside and outside the house, allowing you to get a lot of wear. The hardest part will be choosing between fur flats in Mary Jane, ballet-flat, or clog silhouettes.
Birkenstock's Big Buckle styles are always a favorite.
