The Trending Fall Color That Celebs, French Women, and Fashion Editors Are Suddenly Into
I'll admit it: I'm a big rule follower. But when it comes to fashion practices, I believe in bending a few. Take the "matching shoe and bag" rule, for example. To me, an outfit actually looks chicer when the colors complement each other rather than match exactly. Similarly, the "no white (or ivory) after Labor Day" rule feels outdated to me, which is why I want to talk about it today.
Summer is behind us, but that doesn't mean you have to stow away your light-colored clothing items. Instead, consider integrating them even more into your fall and winter outfit rotations. There's an undeniable elegance in donning ivory or off-white during the chilly seasons. Evidence of this can be seen in the recent style choices of fashion enthusiasts, including New York City editors and Parisian content creators, who are showcasing sophisticated ivory ensembles on a near-daily basis. While every look has been different, they've all proven that this serene, clean, and timeless hue is a cold-weather staple.
To provide some inspiration, I've curated eight of the best ivory outfit ideas from my favorite street style stars. Continue reading to explore these looks, and remember that the through line in it all is that each incorporates heavier fabrics like wool, cotton, and denim to create stylish and warm ensembles.
1. Poncho + Sweater + Maxi Skirt
One of our favorite buys of the season is a silk poncho or wrap. It is the perfect outer layer for the changing weather when elegantly draped over a lightweight knit or a button-down shirt. Picture the sophistication of an ivory poncho styled over a long-sleeve turtleneck paired with a black poplin skirt and a belt for a touch of dimension.

2. Sweaterdress + Mules
A sweaterdress is a timeless and versatile wardrobe staple, offering a chic look no matter the color. If you want to add variety to your wardrobe, swap your black knit silhouettes for ivory. The style and hue are enduring and lend themselves well to being paired with fall accessories, like a chocolate-brown handbag and luxurious satin mules.

3. Sheer Top + Silk Pants
Elsa Hosk epitomizes effortless style, particularly with her minimalistic and neutral outfits. While I love so many of her off-white looks, this one is a favorite. The delicate ribbed long-sleeve top paired with a coordinating bralette, complemented by the lustrous satin ivory pants, creates a stunning visual. This ensemble is a gentle reminder that embracing simplicity can be incredibly chic.

4. Trench Coat + Turtleneck + Trousers
Going for a complete ivory ensemble is a foolproof way to wear the hue. For the fall, start with an elegant ivory trench coat paired with wide-leg pants. Layer on a cozy ribbed turtleneck and add a sleek touch with pointed-toe slingbacks. Then, finish the look by adding a belt over your shirt—a style trick French women love.

5. Matching Set + Snake-Print Shoes
Fact: You can never go wrong with a matching set, especially when it looks like a chic off-the-shoulder dress. While an ivory two-piece look can go with almost any shoe color, team it with snake-print heels, a style synonymous with luxury.

6. Button-Down + Jeans + Flats
Every fall, I notice stylish individuals flaunting elegant ivory jeans to add sophistication to their ensembles. This season, I'm excited to embrace this trend. I plan to do this by teaming cream denim pants with a crisp white button-down shirt and sleek black flats. There's something about the blend of white, ivory, and black that automatically looks polished.

7. Silk Blouse + Silk Skirt + Closed-Toe Heels
Christie Tyler's ivory outfit is a lesson in rich-looking style. Take notes and pair an ivory silk top featuring a necktie with a lace-trimmed slip skirt. Then, add black kitten heels and a top-handle bag for an unexpected cool-girl edge.

8. Puffer Jacket + Cardigan + Leggings
Fight off the dull winter weather by exchanging your black puffer jacket for an ivory one. The soft color will give your warm ensembles a lively and refined feel. Free People's quilted coat is the perfect piece for the season ahead because it's lightweight and can be packed away easily. Plus, the adjustable waistband allows you to cinch your waist for a flattering fit.
