Perfection Happens When You Mix a Basic With One of These 6 Trendy Fall Items
Basics are basically the foundations of our wardrobes. After all, it’s these staples that more or less anchor our looks, with the ability to be easily mixed and matched with those trend-driven pieces that crop up each season. On that note, there are actually a few specific elevated basics that I think pair especially well with some of fall’s most forward items. Essentially, outfit perfection can happen when said trendy hero items are balanced out with the simple pieces in question.
Here, I’m talking about pairings like a timeless white button-down shirt and an of-the-moment sweater-vest or a chic blazer and knit top. To showcase all of this further, I’m highlighting how fashion people are wearing some of my favorite outfit combos below. Keep scrolling for more. You’ll also find a smattering of inspired shopping picks as well in case you’re looking to add something fresh into your rotation.
Cardigan + Vintage Collar
Those vintage-inspired collars are seriously trending, and will take any staple cardigan to the next level.
Leggings + Oversize Shirt
Have a go-to pair of leggings? Try your classic pair with an oversize shirt for a very directional silhouette.
Sweatpants + Ribbed Knit
Ribbed knits—especially those styles that have unique necklines or cutout details—are everywhere this fall. Love the idea of wearing one with a pair of sweatpants or joggers for a current vibe.
Blazer + Leather Trousers
Your favorite blazer—either a classic style or one that's modern and slouchy—will look effortlessly chic with trendy leather trousers.
Blouse + Sweater-Vest
A sweater vest could be considered a next-level basic and it's also a trend piece for the season. Toss one over a white blouse, and you have yourself quite a forward 'fit.
Straight-Leg Jeans + Cropped Blazer
Cropped blazers are back as a must-have for the season—and work great with a range of items, but especially straight-leg jeans.
