Among the Who What Wear team, I'm known for loving "ugly" shoes. Case in point? My thoughts on how Crocs were set to be big in 2021. (Spoiler: They are.) While that might be an "ugly" shoe too far for some, style-adjacent clogs are also back for 2021. They might seem like the same shoes but are actually a little different and (sorry, Crocs) much cooler. Last summer, I was drawn to clogs when I spotted Fabrizio Viti's daisy versions. I own a pair of the denim ones, and while I didn't have anywhere to wear them last summer, I can't wait to style them à la Lucy Williams with socks.
As for the rest of fashion, I can pinpoint the moment we turned towards loving clogs, and that was when Hermès debuted the style in its S/S 21 collection. Now, I know we say the word chic a lot in fashion, but these were chic—simple, elegant shined leather in beige, brown or black with contrasting studs lining the sides. The heels were low, so you could easily wear them every day. I imagined wearing them with jeans and a white shirt or my favourite brightly coloured summer dress. Ultimately, it was clear that there was real craft put into creating these shoes. Of course, those particular clogs are now fully sold out, but fear not, as there are plenty of other designers offering up clogs, from Isabel Marant to Re/Done as well as Mango and FitFlop (yes, really).
