5 Classic Fall Trends That Are Increasing in Popularity More Than Ever

I recently chatted about the idea of a "classic trend." Sure, the overall concept is a bit curious given that trending pieces are often those that are more "current.” But to me, classic trends are those that are timeless and consistently relevant—often being reworked and updated throughout the seasons. And yep, there are a few classic fall trends that I think are honestly increasingly in popularity more than ever this year.
I’m talking about those fall staple items like trench coats, chunky knits, and black boots that have all been reimagined to cement a covetable status among the fashion crowd. Honestly, I feel like I can’t talk to one of my fellow editor friends without chatting about the need for a flat, lug-sole black boot or an oversize knit. I’m spotting said pieces all over IG as well. Interested in checking out the next-level classic items in question? Keep scrolling for more, along with visual inspiration and shopping recommendations throughout.
1. Slouchy Knit
A cozy sweater is a timeless fall item—and it's those oversize silhouettes (with balloon sleeves and in baggy shapes) that are making waves through the fashion world.
2. Chunky Flat Boots
If I were to rattle off a list of autumn staples, black boots would definitely be up there. Those flat, chunkier styles are what really matter this season.
3. Long Coat
A wool coat is an absolute classic. This season, consider a style in a longer length to make a statement.
4. Leather Blazer
Blazers are another classic fall piece, and I feel a leather blazer is a trend-forward option that will instantly bring direction to an outfit.
5. Trench Coat
While those classic trench coats will be forever in fashion, the reworked styles (featuring unique accents and in unexpected shapes) continue to increase in popularity.
Next, Kate Middleton brings back these 5 trends every fall.
