The Under-$100 and Over-$100 Boots Our Editors Want to Buy Right Now
As you can probably imagine (or have literally read on Who What Wear), with fall swiftly approaching our editors have garnered quite the long wish lists of pieces to purchase for the season ahead. From trends to staples, we’re eyeing so much for the next few months that it feels nearly impossible to narrow down the options to a level that feels realistic in terms of budget and closet space—and I feel like you can probably relate.
So with that in mind, I thought I’d task my dear colleagues with editing their choices for one of the most anticipated buys every time fall rolls around. Of course, I’m talking about boots. While we’re loving countless pairs, I figured if we can choose just one that’s affordable and one that’s a splurge, it might help kick-start the process. Curious to see what made the cut? Simply continue on to read about and shop the under-$100 and over-$100 boot picks our editors think are better than the rest.
Under $100:
"I'm very into snake-print everything right now, and these boots are no exception. They'd look so good under a pair of long-ish black jeans."
Over-$100:
"I've been craving a pair of knee-high boots to tuck my jeans and trousers into this fall, and these might just be them."
Under $100:
"Another fall boot trend I'm excited for is the exaggerated rubber-sole look. Not only is this style extremely practical for the fall and winter, but it will also make any outfit you wear it with feel 10 times cooler."
Over $100:
"I'm really trying to lean into platform boots for fall. I think the shape finally feels fresh again and looks great with everything from jeans to midi skirts. This snake-print pair is going to be my go-to all season long; just watch."
Under $100:
"I'm thrilled one of the biggest boot trends of the season is actually very practical. Bring on the lug soles."
Over $100:
"I've been itching for some knee-high boots, and this simple yet special Wandler pair made my jaw drop."
Under $100:
"I'm still all about the utility boot as a simple way to bring an unexpected cool element to even the most basic outfit. These beauties with the platform detail and contrasting laces are where it's at."
Over $100:
"Sorry, I'm not over the animal-print trend. If my friends are looking to invest in a forward ankle boot silhouette not everyone will have, it's all about these zebra stunners."
Under $100:
"I've actually owned these boots since last spring and can 100% vouch for them. Not only are they one of my most comfortable pairs of shoes I own, but they also tap into the lug-sole boot trend that will be everywhere this fall."
Over $100:
"On the top of my list to order right now? These sleek two-tone boots from Manu Atelier."
Under $100:
"I've been on the hunt for a pair of knee-high boots ever since I spotted them all over the street at NYFW, and this glossy mock-croc pair instantly stands out."
Over $100:
"Trends and seasons aside, I always always need a sleek pair of black ankle boots like these in my wardrobe. These are particularly versatile thanks to the block heel and tonal cap toe."
Under $100:
"Square-toe boots are very on trend right now, and these boots are an easy-to-wear version of the look. I love the faux-croc pattern and thick heel, which make them stylish and comfortable at the same time."
Over-$100:
"When it comes to investing in more expensive shoes, I always make sure that they're super versatile, and won't show scuffs and scratches as lighter colors do. These black Tabitha Simmons boots will last a lifetime."
Under $100:
"I'm in need of a chic new pair of tall boots to wear under my pleated midi skirts this fall, and this sophisticated burgundy pair is the perfect option. They look decidedly more expensive than their $70 price tag."
Over $100:
"A new pair of staple black ankle boots are in order for the colder season ahead. This suede square-toe pair will work with practically everything in my closet."
Up next? The fall dress trend everyone is already wearing.
Since starting as an intern back in 2013, Nicole Akhtarzad Eshaghpour has held several roles here at Who What Wear, and she is currently Editor-at-Large. It was a less expected route, seeing as she was graduating from business school at USC when this all began, but it has turned out to be the best one for her. Fast-forward to 2024, and she's moved to NYC from her hometown of Beverly Hills and spends her workdays a little differently from when she was an intern starting out. Currently, she focuses on a weekly mélange of shopping content. As far as her personal style goes, she's largely drawn to classic pieces and neutral basics but will always make an exception for something colorful, printed, or bejeweled as long as it's deemed worthy enough. After all, the only thing she loves more than a good party is dressing up for one. On weekdays, she can usually be found at home eating something delicious for dinner and trying to force her husband to watch Summer House.
