This "Boring" Coat Is the Key to Looking Elevated This Winter

Is it just me, or is this season being dominated by grey coats? Between the sell-out COS style that every influencer managed to bag (meanwhile, I spent hours refreshing my browser to no avail) and the slew of cosy, slate-coloured robe coats that Londoners and Parisiennes are wearing, grey coats are where it's at this winter.

My favourite trends are often so simple it's surprising that they haven't been a thing all along, and the grey coat certainly falls into that category. Although they make a classic addition to any coat collection, grey tones are often overlooked, particularly when you compare them to black, cream and camel. I looked through my wardrobe to see if I already owned a grey coat that I'd forgotten about (I live in Scotland, where it's always cold, so I basically collect outerwear), and I was shocked to find that I didn't have one.

So, I decided to go on a search for the perfect grey coat. In the process, I came across the best grey coats for every budget and aesthetic, including warming robe coats and sharply tailored styles that'll give any outfit serious polish. Scroll on to see my edit of the sleekest, most timeless and best grey coats around.

A grey coat looks all the more classic when worn with black winter accessories.

Shorter coat styles are cropping up, too. This Totême iteration is high on my wish list.

Take the tonal approach by styling your coat with grey separates underneath.

Lighter grey hues will soften any dark outfit you choose to wear them with.

See what I mean about grey on grey? So chic.
