8 Trending Beauty Gadgets That Rosie, VB and Jen An Use at Home
It's official: 2019 has undoubtedly been the year of the beauty gadget. From skincare tools that a facialist wants us to start using ASAP to hair tools that beauty editors swear by, I'm always on the lookout for a new device that promises to make my beauty routine easier and more efficient without the need for an expert on-hand. And I'm not alone in my thinking—turns out, the A-list are just as keen to embrace a beauty gadget to embrace their at-home beauty routines.
From Jennifer Aniston to Victoria Beckham, celebrities are stocking up on trending beauty gadgets to get professional-level results without having to step foot in a salon—and, in good news, most of them are available for us regular folk to get our hands on too! Who needs a facialist on speed dial after all?
Keep scrolling to shop the 8 of the best beauty gadgets that celebrites swear by for their hair and skin.
#1: Sarah Chapman Pro Hydro Mist Steamer
VB credits facialist Sarah Chapman with much of her skin success—relying on a mix of regular facials and products from the lady herself to keep her acne-prone skin in check. But when she can't make it to the salon, Beckham relies on the Sarah Chapman Pro Hydro Mist Steamer (£119) to pamper her skin at home.
After cleansing, you position your face in front of this beauty gadget and allow the steam to deeply cleanse your skin, purify pores and remove all traces of makeup, excess oil or other impurities for brighter, dewier skin.
"I have to say that I’m really impressed with this machine,” said Beckham on her Instagram Stories. "The steam comes out super strong… For me, this is as good as any steamer that I’ve used when I’ve been for a professional facial. I think this is great… I’m really, really excited about this."
#2: ZIIP Beauty Nano Current Skincare Device
Aniston previously revealed to Vogue that she has sworn-off more extreme skincare treatments and facials in favour of using at-home beauty gadgets for more gentle—but just as effective—results.
One of her favourite skincare tools comes courtesy of her own facialist Melanie Simon, who also works with clients like Eva Mendes and Busy Phillips. Created by an expert team of electrical engineers, scientists and skin experts, the ZIIP Beauty Nano Current Skincare Device (£425) sends nano-currents through the skin to kickstart your skin cells and boost their efficiency.
You can target everything from ageing to acne depending on the settings that you opt for. "I have never seen such a result from a little machine like that," Aniston said of the tool.
#3: LED Light Mask
Usually reserved for in-salon treatments, LED facials work by using red light to stimulate collagen production to improve elasticity and tone and blue light to reduce inflammation and destroy spot-causing bacteria. Jessica Alba took to Instagram to share her "emergency session" with the LED mask that she swears by to prep her skin before work.
While Alba's mask of of choice isn't available in the UK, the Dr Dennis Gross Skincare Spectralite Faceware Pro (£430) offers up acne-fighting, wrinkle-reducing light therapy in just 3 minutes. Yes, it's pricey but it's basically like having a celebrity facialist in your own home.
#4: Jade Roller
2019 has definitely been the year of the facial tool so it's no surprise that the A-list have been obsessed with them too. Supermodel Jourdan Dunn recently revealed her full skincare routine in a video for Vogue and, it turns out, she swears by using a jade roller to look after her skin.
"I'm going to use my jade roller because after I've put my serum on I just want to, you know, massage it all in," Dunn explained. "It sculpts my face."
Jade rollers are a great, affordable way to boost your current skincare routine. Not only does the ritual of massaging your skin feel incredible but it actually reduces puffiness and stimulates lymphatic drainage to firm and tone the skin as you roll. I keep mine in the fridge it's extra-cool when I use it.
#5: Dyson Hair Dryer
When the Dyson Hair Dryer (£300) first launched back in 2016, basically everyone went wild for it—from beauty editors to my friend's mums. But despite the seemingly mass appeal, it wasn't until Rosie Huntington-Whiteley pledged her allegiance to the beauty gadget this year that I gave it a go. And I have to say: if you're looking to shave precious minutes off your blow-dry time and add shine then it's worth every penny.
"I was a little dubious about this, to be honest, because it's a hair dryer and it has quite a big price tag attached to it," said Huntington-Whiteley on Rose Inc. "But after using it for the first few times, it truly, truly blew me away. No pun intended."
#6: Gua Sha
Another affordable beauty gadget that has definitely been trending this year is the gua sha. Much like the jade roller, it's a great starting point for at-home facial massage and Beyoncé’s makeup artist Sir Join told Into The Gloss that he uses it to "warm up" the A-lister's skin before applying makeup.
In Sir John's words it's great to "get bloody flow glowing and make skin look healthy". I recently started using one along my jaw line, after applying my serums at night. It feels incredible and relieves any tension that you hold in your jaw at night but it also works to firm and lift the skin for a more sculpted appearance—great before a night out or special event when you might want a little extra lift.
#7: Foreo UFO Smart Mask Treatment Device
This is definitely the kind of beauty gadget that you didn't know you needed until you try it. But I gave the Foreo UFO Smart Mask Treatment Device (£249) a go after discovering that both Alexa Chung and Victoria Beckham used it backstage on their models at fashion week and it's now a part of my regular skincare routine.
The innovative device works by combining UFO-activated sheet masks with T-Sonic pulsations, LED light therapy and heating and cooling actions for a professional-level treatment at home. Even better, while most sheet masks take around 20 minutes to work, the UFO works in just 90 seconds—great if you're short on time.
Alexa took to Instagram Stories to show her makeup artist, Ciara O'Shea, using it to prep her skin ahead of a shoot for a quick and easy complexion boost.
#8: Microneedling
Gwynnie is no stranger to obscure beauty treatments but micro-needling is the beauty gadget that she swears by for boosting radiance. "They take teensy acupuncture needles with vitamins and inject the surface of your skin with them," Paltrow told Well + Good. "It didn’t even hurt that much, but it just seemed weird. My skin looked really glowy for a number of days, I have to tell you."
Opt for a derma roller, like the Swiss Clinic Skin Roller (£79) to get similar results at home. The microneedles lightly penetrate the surface of the skin to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin—hence that healthy glow.
Next up, I've replaced my wipes, cotton pads and makeup remover with this one product.
