The One High-Street Store I Always Buy My Basics From
As any fashion editor will tell you, basics are arguably the most important part of your wardrobe. In my experience, if you don't build a strong grounding, then you will struggle to put together outfits. After all, you can't create a painting without a canvas or a building without a foundation. You get the idea. If you look at the best outfits on Instagram, you'll soon realise that each and every one will include a staple, whether it's a white tee, classic flat boots, a blazer or tailored trousers. In summary? Basics are big business.
Wearing my favourite Arket white tee at fashion week.
The four things I look for in a good basic are as follows: fit, quality of the material, colour and versatility. From my extensive shopping experience, I can safely say that Arket ticks all the boxes every time. For example, I searched high and low for the perfect white tee, and unexpectedly, Arket's £15 crew-neck came up trumps. (My husband finds the same with the men's iteration, FYI.) It's the ideal amount of fitted on the shoulders and loose but not baggy around the hips, and I also seriously rate the crew-neck collar.
Before I get carried away with my ode to the Arket white T-shirt, let me present you with the 19 other basics that the brand has totally perfected. Scroll down to shop my edit, from sharply tailored trousers and the softest roll-neck knit to the oversized white shirt and the elevating knee-high boots.
