First, some context. I tried the Onda Pro while I was in Korea in March 2025 during what was supposed to be an educational trip where I was studying under some plastic surgeons and dermatologists. At the end of my trip, I had one day to myself after all of my classes were completed, and I decided to treat myself and indulge in a handful of beauty treatments, as one does while in Korea. What Makes Onda Pro Different
Onda Pro, manufactured by DEKA, uses microwave energy, which sits within the broader radiofrequency spectrum but behaves very differently from traditional RF devices. At a frequency of 2.45 gigahertz, this form of energy preferentially interacts with lipid-rich tissue, allowing it to deposit energy in the subcutaneous fat layer without excessively heating the skin surface or penetrating beyond the fat layer. That distinction matters. Traditional RF relies on resistive heating and tends to interact first with water-rich tissue, like the dermis. Microwave energy, by contrast, couples more efficiently with fat. This allows Onda to heat adipose tissue more selectively while keeping epidermal temperatures relatively controlled.
From a regulatory standpoint, Onda Pro is FDA cleared in the U.S. for tissue heating to increase local circulation and for the temporary improvement in the appearance of cellulite. That language is important, and I want to be very clear about it.
At the same time, what we've seen—both through our global partners and now in my own clinics—is consistent in three observable outcomes: fat reduction, skin tightening, and cellulite improvement.
Why Patients Love Onda Pro and Who It's Best For
We bought our first Onda Pro device from Italy (though it was made famous by Korea) in December 2025, and it immediately became a patient favorite. The biggest reason is results with comfort. It works well on softer, more uniform fat but does not tighten skin. In some patients, fat reduction without skin contraction can leave behind laxity. The treatment itself can also be uncomfortable. The U.S. uses ultrasound-based technologies, which rely on reaching a specific thermal threshold to be effective. Sessions can take anywhere from 15 to 90 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas treated. We typically recommend four treatments per area, spaced four to six weeks apart. It's important to note that this treatment is not recommended for lipedema, lipomas, or those with damaged lymphatic systems.
