The BAFTAs Red Carpet Looked So Much Like the Golden Globes
The latest in awards-show season, the 71st British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) is happening today. Echoing the Golden Globes’ sartorial blackout, the BAFTAs red carpet was a runway of black dresses in support of the Time's Up movement. Not only did the red carpet outfits symbolise a call for change, but Vogue reports that prior to the evening’s events, “190 British and Irish actors published an open letter of intent, announcing a new UK Justice and Equality Fund and making a stand against sexual harassment in the workplace.” Furthermore, a number of feminist activists were seen walking the red carpet alongside celebrities including Angelina Jolie.
While Kate Middleton wore a green dress on the red carpet, The Mirror reports that this is likely due to the fact that she is “encouraged not to take a political stance on any issues.” However, there is some speculation that the colour choice may be paying tribute to the suffragettes, who wore dark green to “to represent hope”. Keep scrolling to see Middleton’s dress, and all the other black gowns on the BAFTA red carpet.
