As one of Australia’s top retailers, it’s Witchery’s duty to fill our wardrobes each season with on-trend, seasonal updates (that don’t break the bank). Tonight, the label presented its S/S 16 offering to Sydney’s fashion elite, and all we can say is, we hope the next 42 days of winter fly by. The collection (which includes a limited-edition fast-tracked capsule of 13 pieces that land in store tomorrow so you can get your summer-fix early) featured easy slip dresses, graphic stripes, and a range of colour—from fiery orange to pale neutrals. Exactly what we want to wear when the temps warm up.
We caught up with Witchery’s managing director, Linda Levy, to discover what it’s like to put together a fashion show, and the number one piece you should update your wardrobe with next season. Keep scrolling to read our interview and peep her predictions for the next best-sellers.
Who What Wear Australia: What’s the biggest misconception about putting together a runway show?
Linda Levy: That a runway show is just for the media as a preview of the season ahead. Our S/S 16 runway capsule can be viewed on the night, and customers can shop the looks direct from the runway immediately after the show.
WWW: What would our readers be surprised to hear about what happens backstage?
LL: That the crew outnumber the models! It takes nine makeup artists, 12 hair stylists, eight photographers, four stylists, six film crew, 10 tech crew, 36 dressers and 10 Witchery staff to get our S/S 16 models down the runway.
WWW: What are the key trends we can expect to see at Witchery for SS/16?
LL: Our S/S 16 woman’s wardrobe embraces contrasts—mixing texture with fluidity, teaming feminine lingerie looks with man-style tuxedo tailoring, combining streetwear with sequins, and ethnic influences with sleek, modern silhouettes.
WWW: What was the inspiration for the collection?
LL: This season, we’re celebrating the Witchery women who dare to run wild. Strength, spirit and freedom of expression defines the collection.
WWW: If you only updating your wardrobe with one ‘trend’ piece for S/S 16, what do you think it should be?
LL: Any off the shoulder piece! It’s a silhouette that flatters any shape and is easy to wear throughout the season.
WWW: How long does it take to produce a collection of this size?
LL: We work on the collection over a month in design and then it takes about four months to produce and deliver to stores.

A long duster coat adds sophistication to the most basic outfit.
How to wear it? Loose over denim shorts, with a pair of ankle boots for model off-duty style.
If your wardrobe doesn't yet include a simple lace cami, you're missing out.
The secret ingredient to long legs? A scalloped hem.
Ditch the heels for work. A pair of loafers is just as chic.
