What Women Over 40 Are Buying From Zara
Meet Lauren, Who What Wear's fashion editor and co-founder of The Devils Wear Zara. Lauren is so obsessed with Zara that we started calling her the Zara Scout. Now she's turning the nickname into a franchise so she can regularly share her insider knowledge of the brand with you, including all her hacks, secrets, and must-haves.
Shopping at Zara, or anywhere, for that matter, knows no age limit. There are no restrictions or rules related to age when it comes to shopping, but sometimes hearing what others your age are buying can be kind of fun, no? Since I have an abnormal portal into the Zara-obsessed world (The Devils Wear Zara), I decided to put up an Instagram story to all our followers asking women 40 and older to share the pieces they love shopping for the most at the fast-fashion retailer.
One of the many responses we got implying that choosing just one or two pieces to shop at Zara was simply impossible.
Per usual, our loyal audience was more than willing to jump right in and share with us their go-to buys. Spoiler alert: They basically shop in every single category the retailer offers, and we couldn't relate more. Below, some of the lovely ladies (and their daughters) shared with me their shopping tips on navigating Zara when you're over 40. One girl even shared a photo of her mom, and it's maybe the cutest thing I've ever seen.
Coats
"My mum absolutely loves all their coats! She is 52 and wore their bright pink coat yesterday and was stopped by four different people who loved it and wanted to know where it was from. They were all amazed when she said it was from Zara." — Matilda Vidler, mom is 52
Workwear Pieces
"I've always loved Zara and have been buying items for my daughters and myself for over 10 years now. I am now in my late 40s and swear that most of my wardrobe is filled with Zara pieces. Zara's my go-to workwear option, especially trousers, and I have recently bought a few dresses and a couple of puff-sleeve blouses as well." — Liz Kama, 49
Statement Jackets + Seasonal Items
"I'm a 46-year-old mother of two, and I freakin' love Zara. I generally buy statement-type pieces like blazers and jackets or short-season items like summer dresses and tops. I also have several pairs of shoes that I love and keep in regular rotation. I do not buy super-trendy pieces and always pay close attention to fabrics and cut. For something awesome, I will have it tailored for that extra love!" — Jodi Robin, 46
Matching Sets, Easy Dresses + Statement Tops
"My mom always buys conservative sets and easy shift dresses plus fun and boxy statement tops." — Abby Costache, mom is 46
Denim
"I want full coverage—can't do the skimpy stuff. Zara has outstanding options in denim styles between flare, wide-leg, fringe, high-waist—they've got it all." — Penny George, 50
Basically Everything
"I love Zara's blazers and trousers for work, tailored coats, high-waisted jeans (suck it all in), booties/shoes, and handbags and totes. The earring options are great too. Plus, they have some stylish clothing options for my boys who are going into kindergarten and third grade." — Rachelle, 40
"Not their swimwear, but jeans, shoes, knitwear, midi dresses, wide-leg trousers, and the occasional dress and (non-cropped) top from TRF. Oh, and kids' clothes!" — Marie-Louise O'Reilly, 41
"Coats, fun shoes and purses, and occasionally trendy tops. In the summer, white eyelet tops galore, sundresses, and tons of clothes for my daughter!" — Liana Young, 42
"I buy pants—I have all the side stripes, the pink polka dots, florals, etc. I also love the jumpsuits, jackets (just got the black fringe tweed one on sale), and an occasional accessory purchase too." — Gillian Kennedy, 43
"I am 60 years old and love shopping in Zara. I love their tops, jackets, shoes, and earrings. Everything is excellent quality, reasonably priced, and classic yet edgy!" — Shelly Derham, 60
