My Closet Felt a Little Stale, so I Added in These 4 Trendier Basics
I sort through my closet on a regular basis in an effort to keep it fresh. If I am getting rid of a bunch of items, I typically won’t replace them with an equal amount. It’s all about a tighter edit for me. That said, if I do a larger purge, I will sometimes add a few key items to mix it up. And that’s exactly what I just did. I thought my closet felt a little stale—especially on the basics front—so I decided to add in four trendier basics.
The versatile and forward items in question are actually all front-runners for many of my colleagues as well. It makes perfect sense given that they’re all easy to style and feel of-the-moment. Keep scrolling to check out the four basics I’m into right now, complete with visual inspiration from my fellow fashion editors. There are also shopping recommendations if you're into one of the basics.
1. Wide-Leg Pants
Whether it's a trouser silhouette or a pair of jeans, pants with wider legs are what I care about right now. I added relaxed denim into my wardrobe, and I'm intrigued by trying a cool pair of cargo pants.
2. Oversize White Button-Down Shirts
As I showcased here, the oversize white shirt is key to some of my most-complimented looks these days. To me, this is the ultimate elevated basic, and it can make an outfit feel all the chicer.
3. Longline Outerwear
I actually just ordered this maxi coat from Oak + Fort. The longline silhouette is elegant and forward. I can literally toss this over the most low-ley outfit and have a sleek vibe.
4. Faux-Leather Items
I've written about the appeal of faux-leather separates a few times recently. I have one piece, but I have a pair of faux-leather trousers in my cart to try.
