Just a Reminder That No One Cared About Tiny Sunglasses 10 Years Ago

For anyone paying attention to major summer trends, you already know the takeaway is tiny. Sunglasses, that is. Thanks to the likes of trend leaders such as Rihanna, Bella Hadid, and Kendall Jenner, the silhouette of summer 2018 is a bit more petite and narrow than in the past. And as memory serves me right on sunglass trends past and present, much smaller than those of approximately 10 years ago.

One of my own initial reactions to the small sunglass trend was not of approval or disapproval but amusement. It seems like just yesterday when Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were the poster children of nearly larger-than-life sunglass trends. And I can remember when Nicole Richie and Victoria Beckham sparked my own hunt for oversize sunglasses that made it look like I was hiding from paparazzi even if the reality was more like strolling into Intro to Psych 10 minutes late.

As some wise fashion fans (see: Mindy Kaling) have advised, it is possible we’ll look back on 2018’s tiny sunglass trend with a bit less fondness than how we feel about them now. But while the trends continue to cycle, feel free to take a trip down memory lane and see how you still feel about the celeb sunglass looks of 2008 that were the total opposite of today’s hottest item.

Here’s the best news: If you hate tiny sunnies but aren’t willing to go for a shape that takes up most of your face, take a look at the sunglass styles that strikes the perfect balance.
