Suits may have been a mainstay in the wardrobes of women for decades now, but it's been a while since they played such a prominent role in our casual-wear capsules. Of course, they will always be a go-to for when we want to feel pulled-together for an important meeting or event, but we've noticed more and more fashion-lovers bringing an altogether more low-key finish to the classic two-piece.

At fashion week, we lost count of the number of showgoers who stepped out in suits—and this is a social group that usually forgoes anything that feels remotely corporate. The women we saw subverted the suit's typical associations with off-beat accessories, tonal layering and low-key shoes, and the effect was pretty damn chic.

Despite offering an outwardly trend-led finish, the tailored suit also has the unexpected bonus of being ridiculously easy to style. If you think about it, it's essentially a ready-made outfit—chuck on a base layer and shoes, and you're ready to go. It's particularly useful for autumn, as you can layer the blazer over thick knits and style with heeled boots, and if it's super cold, you can even throw a tailored coat over the blazer and it'll still look good (just make sure it's an oversized style).
