Beauty has always been a part of Deepica Mutyala’s DNA. In fact, she had been dreaming of starting a revolutionary beauty brand since she was a teenager. However, it wasn’t until 2015, when she created a viral YouTube video that gave viewers an inside beauty hack of covering under-eye circles with red lipstick—garnering over 10 million views—that Mutyala found herself at the forefront of the rapidly evolving beauty industry.
Mutyala quickly became a familiar face in the beauty world as a celebrated on-air expert and YouTuber, eventually using her burgeoning platform to campaign for minority representation within the industry. Today, Mutyala is the founder and CEO of Live Tinted, a makeup company on a mission to recognize and champion beauty for all skin tones. After its launch in 2018 as a digital platform exploring the intricacies and dynamic relationship between beauty and culture, Live Tinted released its first product in 2019—the Huestick—which sold out almost immediately and bolstered a waiting list of over 10,000 people. Coming full circle from her viral video, the Huestick is an eye, lip, and cheek multi-stick that addresses the seemingly impossible task of correcting dark circles, dark spots, and hyperpigmentation.
She has gone on to launch a range of community-driven products, from HueGuard, an innovative daily mineral SPF, moisturizer, and primer, to SuperHue, a hyperpigmentation serum stick. Through Live Tinted, Mutyala is giving a voice to those underrepresented in the space, and she continues to expand the product range with no signs of slowing down.
But before becoming a beauty trailblazer, Mutyala actually began her career in the fashion industry, working at Victoria’s Secret as an inventory analyst. She then joined Birchbox, when it was just two years old, as a brand campaign strategy manager, where she worked her way up to senior manager of brand development. Listen to the latest episode of Second Life to hear how Mutyala turned her passion into a brand that is truly making a lasting impact in the beauty industry.
