Avid Who What Wear readers have probably noticed a recurring theme in our summer trend coverage: off-the-shoulder tops and dresses. Spotted on celebrities and runways alike, the popular style shows no signs of slowing down. But just how popular is it, you might ask? The Washington Post has some illuminating data.
For starters, the newspaper tapped analytics company Edited to reveal how popular the trend is with retailers. "In the first quarter of 2016, there was a 110 percent year-over-year increase in the number of off-the-shoulder tops and dresses arriving online, along with a 218 percent boom in arrivals of cold-shoulder tops and dresses," the newspaper reported.
The Post also tapped representatives from Shopbop, Rent the Runway, Bloomingdale's, and JCPenney, who all revealed that off-the-shoulder styles are by far the fastest-selling pieces. For example, the Rent the Runway team initially ordered less than 100 units of each item in the silhouette but quickly "went out and reordered as many as we could get our hands on."
Of course, we didn't need the Post to tell us to get shopping. Scroll down to find our favorite off-the-shoulder tops and dresses right now!
