8 Winter Outfit Trends That Made Me Want to Go Shopping

There's a lot about winter—especially this winter (which hasn't even officially started yet)—that's just ugh. But one of the best ways to get out of a mid-winter rut is to put on a great outfit. And good news: There are a lot of them out there. I tend to prefer cold-weather outfit trends over those during warmer seasons because with layers, there are so many opportunities to get creative. And that's exactly what the fashion crowd is doing.

I scrolled through countless Instagram posts and found eight winter outfit trends that I'm definitely going to copy and that are making me want to go (online) shopping. So in case you want some cool new outfit ideas for masked walks outside and such, and/or want to add some trending pieces to your winter wardrobe, keep scrolling to take notes and shop. Best of luck staying safe and warm out there.

The Outfit Trend: Shorts, Patterned Tights, Loafers

What I'm Shopping for: Patterned Tights

Thanks to Chanel and its highly coveted logo tights, patterned tights are trending across the board, and I'm on board.

My patterned tights picks:

The Outfit Trend: Faux-Leather Coat, Sweater, Jeans, Boots

What I'm Shopping for: Faux-Leather Coat

Faux leather is everywhere this season, and I love seeing how chic women are styling it. This outfit, in particular, is simple and warm and is inspiring me to get myself a faux-leather coat.

My faux-leather coat picks:

The Outfit Trend: Teddy Coat, Sweatsuit, Chunky Boots

What I'm Shopping for: Chunky Boots

As far as sweatsuit outfits, this is one of the best I've seen. I 100% plan on pairing one with chunky boots in the very near future.

My chunky-boot picks:

The Outfit Trend: Coat, T-Shirt, Low-Rise Jeans, Lug-Sole Shoes

What I'm Shopping for: Low-Rise Jeans

If you're stumped by how to style low-rise jeans, take note of this outfit. It makes the "controversial" trend actually quite wearable.

My low-rise jean picks:

The Outfit Trend: Fun Puffer, Sweaterdress, Boots

What I'm Shopping for: Fun Puffer

Life's too short for boring puffers, am I right? I love the idea of pairing one with a casual dress and stompy boots. It feels fresh and is a nice change from jeans and a hoodie.

My fun puffer picks:

The Outfit Trend: Trench, Hoodie, Leather Pants, Sneakers

What I'm Shopping for: Straight-Leg Leather Pants

Unlike in previous years, the trending leather trouser style is straight-leg instead of skinny pants. And they're just as easy to style as straight-leg jeans.

The Outfit Trend: Matching Knit Set, Sneakers

What I'm Shopping for: Matching Knit Set

I love a good sweatsuit, but I'm of the thinking that knit matching sets made of sweater material are a bit more polished (and sometimes even cozier). Pair them with sneakers, slippers, or boots.

My matching knit set picks:

The Outfit Trend: Quilted Coat, Jeans, Wellies

What I'm Shopping for: Quilted Coat

A good quilted coat has been my most coveted item of the season, thanks to Totême (the maker of the coat worn here). It's a great stand-in for a wool coat, especially in inclement weather.
