My dad owns his fair share of argyle sweaters. Beyond that, I've always tied argyle to '90s nostalgia—Cher Horowitz in Clueless and vintage Vivienne Westwood. As I got older, I associated the preppy staple with Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl. In hindsight, I should've seen its comeback coming.
Fast-forward to this year, it feels like the trend is everywhere. During my trip to London in October, argyle was one of the most prominent styles I spotted, and it has since become one of the season's most popular knitwear trends. Thinking back to the fall/winter 2025 runways, I remember spotting an argyle sweater in Khaite's collection as well.
As for how to wear it, the classic diamond pattern works in countless forms, including socks and scarves. Lately, my favorite way to style it has been using the Swedish Stockings Franka Check Tights to make an otherwise simple outfit more interesting.
