7 Fashion Resolutions You Can Actually Keep This Year
The New Year is always a time to take stock and come up with a plan of action to be a more put-together person over the next 12 months. But instead of coming up with the usual "wake up at 6 a.m. to run every day" and "eat more kale" resolutions, we have a number of style mantras that you will want to stick to after the third week in January.
We have consulted a number of editors, stylists and buyers to come up with a list of attainable fashion resolutions, whatever your style, for 2017. Hollywood stylist Cher Coulter says 2017 is the year to have fun with fashion; meanwhile, Caroline Issa is aiming to be the most dressed-up person in the room. Because, why not? If you still have not settled on your New Year mantras, the suggestions below will make you excited about your 2017 wardrobe—and want to shop, of course.
Scroll below for seven style resolutions to adopt in 2017…
Be The Most Dressed-Up Person In The Room
Issa, executive fashion director of Tank Magazine, says she aims to "be the most dressed-up person in the room for 2017. It pushes you to have fun with fashion and enjoy the act of putting together an outfit. And if anything, you'll get a lot of feel-good compliments."
Look After The Things You Do Have
Who What Wear UK's deputy editor Emma Spedding says, "2016 was the year of the The Big Wardrobe Clear-Out, where I edited down my wardrobe to just the things I really wear—and would want to wear. While I'll never achieve Olivia Palermo levels of perfection, this year I'm planning to take better care of the things I have—dry-cleaning blouses, and reheeling my shoes before it becomes an emergency."
Buy More Of The Things You Love
Hannah Almassi, Who What Wear UK's editorial director, says: "I'm going to buy more of what I know I love and wear on repeat, and not feel like that's a boring option. So for me, it's about bulking up on what works 24/7, like navy culottes, black roll-necks, gold earrings, mid-heel knee-high boots, printed midi dresses… These are all the things I go-to each morning, so I may as well have more of them!"
Embrace Fun Fashion
Hollywood stylist Cher Coulter, who works with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley says her top resolution is, "For 2017 I would embrace fun fashion, mix your frilly dresses with your tom boy jeans and dig deep for old vintage you can mix in with new pieces. Don't conform too much!"

Don't be afraid of colour
Elinor Block, the assistant editor of Who What Wear UK, is going to try and embrace colour in 2017: "For the past couple of years, I've streamlined my wardrobe so I only have six basic colours: blue, black, grey, white, green and camel. But I don't want to be afraid of a bold hue anymore. So, for 2017, if I see a bright red dress that I know I'll wear more than three times, it's mine."
Have serious style conviction
Holly Russell, a senior buyer at Net-a-Porter says, "I would like to be more expressive and have style with serious conviction. Some days I'd like to be head-to-toe in The Row, channelling the brand's chic and minimal aesthetic by wearing luxurious knits and wide leg pants. Other days I'd like to embody the effortlessly cool style from Vetements by teaming a hooded sweater with their signature platform boots—I'm absolutely in love with their S/S 17 collection, and I definitely plan on growing my Vetements wardrobe in the New Year."
be more thoughtful with purchases
Stylist Victoria Sekrier advises, "Be more thoughtful with purchases and not to fall into a trap of chasing trends—create your own identity and style."
