The 4 Winter Trends Our Editors Can't Wait to Wear This Year
It pretty much goes without saying that here at Who What Wear, we like to keep track of seasonal trends. It’s embedded right there in the job description that we know what’s current and are able to spot what’s emerging. While our day-to-day is spent analysing everything that is new and now, we have to admit that there are often seasonal trends that catch our attention more than others. Of course, we’d like to try every trend. Unfortunately, it’s not practical for our wallets or the planet to invest in everything. This is why we tend to prioritise the looks we’ll wear winter after winter, which can take some planning to make sure we consider the gaps in our wardrobes.
Individually, each of our editors has a unique personal style and tends to gravitate towards different items (though, we do occasionally turn up to the office in the same outfits). So this winter, while one of us plans to revive baggy jeans, another is embracing the feel-good appeal of a statement coat.
However, no matter which trend each editor is looking to try, the one thread that ties all our picks together is the fact that we’re investing in practical pieces that can be worn on rotation with different outfits over and over again. After all, isn’t wearability the ultimate test of a successful purchase? We're all about minimising that cost per wear.
Keep scrolling to find out which winter trends each of our editors is adding to their wardrobes this season.
Joy Montgomery, Shopping Editor: Slouchy Jeans
"It's fair to say that my overall reaction to this season's noughties trend was ambivalence. As someone who grew up with tight flares and oval belts, I was happy to forget the decade. Yet, as with all trends, there are ways to make it work for you, and I have been surprised by how much I've warmed to the return of low-slung, slouchy jeans. This is far from the skintight iterations of our youth, and the pairing of a low-waist fit and looser trouser leg seems to be the key to keeping the look contemporary. I like to add a polished twist to my Boyish pair with a tailored blazer and textured top."
Hannah Almassi, Editor in Chief: Statement Coats
"In the winter, I keep my outfits fairly plain and enjoy putting on a really OTT coat. I own fluffy ones as well as styles with furry collars and cuffs, patterned ones like a classic leopard print, bright ones in surprisingly versatile shades like red… and they make getting dressed on a cold day not only a pleasure but really very easy, too."
Zoe Anastasiou, Social Media and Fashion Editor: Knitted Midi Skirts
"When it comes to winter dressing, I live by the motto the cosier, the better. Sadly, while I’d like to wear fleece-lined tracksuit trousers to the office on the daily, there is a level of polish that needs to be preserved. Though, that is precisely why I love a knitted midi skirt. The item offers maximum cosiness whilst still looking elevated, and for me, that’s a win-win. Think of it as chic with a side of comfy.”
Maxine Eggenberger, Acting Assistant Editor: Fuzzy Textures
"One thing that you should know about me is that I’m always cold. So come winter, I’m constantly looking for ways to look chic and feel cosy in one fell swoop. Handily, this season, my quest has been made so much easier with the takeover of fuzzy fabrics. Be they shearling, faux fur, or something else tactile, I’m into anything that has the power to make my outfit look expensive whilst effectively being insulation in clothing form."
