The holiday season really is the most wonderful time of the year, isn’t it? Between getting together with our closest friends and family and sipping hot chocolate next to the fire, there are plenty of things to look forward to during this festive season. Of course, with so many activities and events swirling around your schedule, we’re sure you’ll have tons of ensembles to plan out. And between family reunions and holiday parties, putting together Christmas Eve outfits may become an afterthought.

Depending on how you and your loved ones spend the night before Christmas, dressing for the occasion can be tricky. For some, the evening might entail a formal sit-down dinner with everyone, extended family included. For others, it might be a movie night in your comfiest outfit. That’s why our editors are sharing what they’ll be wearing this Christmas Eve. Hopefully, each of our looks will help spark some style inspiration or, at the very least, give you an idea of what to wear for the night if you’re celebrating.

"I wear jeans a lot in life, so I try to do something a little different on holidays. This sweater is one of my favorite purchases so far this season, and the cozy wool shorts would be the perfect match. I'll probably wear black tights with the knee boots if it's chilly."

"Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the cliché Christmas Eve metallic dresses. Instead, I'm leaning toward an amazing tweed blazer, and Veronica Beard definitely makes the best ones. I'd wear that with a pretty black blouse, a skirt, and a cozy scarf. 

"I really enjoy dressing up for Christmas Eve—dinner followed by my family traditions is on the schedule this year. I'll definitely be wearing a fun mini for the special day. Since the temperatures will be quite chilly where I'm from in the midwest, a long coat and knee-high boots will have to be the finishing touches on my look."

"Christmas Eve is a pretty formal occasion with my family—I'm talking a cocktail hour, sit-down dinner, the works—so I like to take a dressier approach to the holiday than I do for, say, Thanksgiving. This year, I'm infatuated with organza pieces as a holiday trend since they feel fancy without playing into any holiday dressing clichés like velvet or metallic. I plan to wear a billowy organza blouse with tailored trousers and platform heels."

"My family keeps it pretty low-key on Christmas Eve. We hang out, usually go to the movies, and then come back home for dinner. So I'll probably wear an outfit that's comfortable yet still elevated (and festive)—a chunky patterned sweater, straight-leg trousers, and polished sneakers."

"For the holidays, I love to wear something festive, so I'm planning to pair this silk top with high-waisted trousers and knee-high boots."
