Splurge vs. Steal: Your Cheat Sheet to the Best Fall Trends
When the seasons change, one of the most overwhelming byproducts is figuring out how to get our wardrobe to change with it. Which pieces are worth buying? Better yet, which pieces are worth investing in? Since everyone's opinions on what to splurge on and when to find a great deal vary, we decided to give you the lowdown on the 2018 fall trends that can be found at both affordable and luxury price points. This way, you can decide for yourself.
It's a little game we like to call "splurge vs. steal," and not to toot our own horn, but we're pretty good at it. Ahead, you'll find your very own fall 2018 trend cheat sheet filled with the hottest seasonal trends, each accompanied by a piece that you can splurge on and a piece that's a total steal. Get ready for the shopping layout of your dreams, and have fun deciphering for yourself which of the latest sartorial sights are worth the money and which aren't.
Noisy Neon
This season, our favorite way to wear this daring color trend is by way of a versatile knit. Turtlenecks (for example) are easy to layer underneath a blazer or coat should you want just a bit of neon to pop out and look good with something as simple as jeans and boots if more of a statement-making highlighter look is what you're going for.
Splurge:
Steal:
Animal Kingdom
Animal print has been absolutely everywhere this season taking the form of skirts, pants, and accessories. But as we enter the cooler months of the season, we can't help but keep our eyes peeled for that perfect fuzzy leopard coat to throw on over everything from sweats to a little black dress.
Splurge:
Steal:
Western Ways
Cowboy boots are another fall trend that has taken the sartorial world by storm. Our favorite iteration? Sleek modern styles. Thanks to the likes of Tibi and Calvin Klein, the traditional cowboy boots have received a major update that adds an approachable element to the shoe trend we honestly needed.
Splurge:
Steal:
Supersize
The only way to wear outerwear this season and well into winter is by making sure it's double the size… if you dare. Since puffer coats are large and in charge as it is, we felt like they were a great jumping-off point in case you're a bit wary of the trend.
Splurge:
Steal:
Perfectly Plaid
A classic style for the autumn season is plaid pants, and 2018 is no different. Wear these timeless trousers with everything from your new neon knits to your oversize puffers and back again.
Splurge:
Steal:
'80s Workwear
Believe it or not, the '80s are officially back. While we love the idea of poofy ruched taffeta minidresses and color-block plastic earrings, oversize blazers with shoulder pads are an article of clothing that we feel meshes best with the rest of our wardrobes (and probably yours too).
Splurge:
Steal:
Volume Up
When it comes to dresses this fall 2018, the bigger the sleeves and/or skirts the better. Designers are literally turning the volume up when it comes to fall frocks, and we are so here for it.
Splurge:
Fuzzy Fleece
Dad fleece is a thing, and it makes so much sense. Embrace the comfy trend with open arms because it's not every day an article of clothing that's basically a blanket is trending.
Splurge:
Steal:
Take a Hike
Proving to be both practical and stylish, It girls and celebrities alike are proudly stomping around in their "hiking" boots. Our favorite way to style the chunky footwear option is with softer pieces like floral dresses or longer skirts.
Splurge:
Steal:
Modern Matrix
The Matrix has officially been remixed and is returning to us in the form of chic black leather pieces. From all-leather suits to a statement leather trench, investing (or finding that perfect steal) in this trend is something we know you won't regret.
