Zendaya Told Us Which Shoes She Would Never Wear
Zendaya may only be 19 years old, but she's already a veritable fashion whisperer. The W magazine cover girl looks equally chic whether she's wearing a camo jacket–and-boots combo for an NBA game or a feminine Kenzo dress at Comic-Con. With her impeccable eye for style, it should come as no surprise that she would decide to enter the design realm: She's created a new shoe line, dubbed Daya by Zendaya, in collaboration with her stylist Law Roach.
To get the scoop, we went straight to Zendaya herself. Our conversation ran the gamut from her involvement with the line to the shoes she'd never wear. When we asked how she would style the flats from her line on the red carpet, Zendaya revealed that she doesn't actually wear flats. "I only wear heels or sneakers; there isn’t an in-between for me," she told Who What Wear. She also dished on her favorite style from the collection, what's next for her brand, and more.

WHO WHAT WEAR: How involved were you in the design process of your new shoe line?ZENDAYA: It was very important for me to be a part of every step of the process. One of my biggest goals was to make a collection of affordable shoes that didn’t look cheap. It was a lot of fun too. Law and I are equal partners for this collection, and we’re constantly on the lookout for inspiration and figuring out ways to expand the line.WWW: If you could only wear one shoe style for fall, what would it be and why?ZENDAYA: That’s a tough one! I have so many pairs! I love heels and actually find them super comfortable. If I had to pick one, I would say the Aaron Pumps from the latest collection. It’s such a great transitional style.
WWW: What's your advice for how girls can dress up a pair of flats if they don't like wearing heels? ZENDAYA: My advice to girls would be to slip into your favorite cocktail dress to show off those legs! You lose a little length by wearing flats, but there are simple tricks to work around it.WWW: How would you style the flats from your new line on the red carpet? ZENDAYA: I only wear heels or sneakers; there isn’t an in-between for me. But the Adrian ballet flat from the collection is the perfect shoe if you’re looking for comfort while still dressing up.
WWW: How do you decide which shoes to wear every day? ZENDAYA: Most days, you will catch me wearing sneakers, I love the comfort of a good pair of sneakers. However, when I dress up I love stepping out in the tallest heels possible. My style is very eclectic and heavily based on my mood that day.WWW: What's next for your shoe line? ZENDAYA: I’m excited to incorporate new colorways and fabrics! I love playing with different textures. It helps add extra pizazz to a shoe.

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
