7 Simple Yet Chic Outfits That Are Perfect for Winter Weekends
As much as we'd like to pretend they haven't, winter temperatures have well and truly set in. The mercury has dropped, and to be frank, it is well below what a summer-loving Australian like me is used to. I am in need of a heavy dose of winter outfit inspiration, as getting through the coming months will require a lot of planning. Where better to turn than Instagram? From images of cosy coats shot among fallen leaves to envy-inducing fluffy jackets and roll-neck jumper combinations, our set of fashion friends definitely know how to make anyone crave winter dressing.
While winter might not be my season of choice, one thing working in its favour is the fact that it provides more opportunity to experiment with my wardrobe. The abundance of layers required to get through the day inevitably equates to an endless number of outfit combinations, and I can't deny there is something exciting about that. I'll be spending my winter weekends mixing and matching my favourite pieces to create outfits that prioritise warmth and comfort but don't lack style. A statement fluffy jacket and chunky sneakers? Check. A leather bomber jacket and loafers? Why not? Scroll through below for seven winter weekend outfits we'll be trying.
1. Knitted Co-ord + Boots
Style Notes: We like to think of knitted co-ords as loungewear that doesn't look like loungewear.
SHOP THE LOOK:
Wear with everything from trainers to knee high boots.
2. The Double Jumper
Style Notes: Sometimes the weather is so cold that one jumper is simply not enough. Make like Brittany Bathgate and layer your second knit around your shoulders so it's ready to go when the temperatures drop.
SHOP THE LOOK:
The oversized fit on this is perfect to layer over a chunky knit.
Cos has such a great selection of trousers at the moment, these are a highlight.
She's timeless, she's elegant, she's a keeper.
3. Classic Trench + Chunky Boots
Style Notes: A trench is great for the summer to autumn transition but layer it correctly enough and you can make it last well into winter too. Add chunky boots to your joggers and you'll be completely winter-proofed.
SHOP THE LOOK:
This wool and cashmere blend makes this trench practical and stylish.
I have this and wear it with everything from leather trousers to denim maxi skirt.
4. Black Bomber Jacket + Dark Denim
Style Notes: Take inspiration from Lucy and go for a pop of colour with a red sock, beige knit and loafers, before finishing it off with leather bomber jacket. And you can add a chunky scarf when it gets really cold.
SHOP THE LOOK:
The same one that Lucy is wearing, just with the shearling detachable collar on. Obsessed.
Cut from rigid organic denim, the loose straight shape feels is all I want to wear at the moment.
These are like two shoes in one. With the collapsible heel you can style them two different ways.
5. All Beige Everything
Style Notes: Is there anything chicer than an all-beige outfit? I wager not. It's the easiest way to do luxe dressing in winter.
SHOP THE LOOK:
6. Fluffy Jacket + Jeans + Sneakers
Style Notes: If you're a cosy gal at heart, you need a fluffy teddy jacket in your wardrobe. Good news—there are plenty of styles around but this H&M version is one of the best on the high street. Team with grey denim and the sneaker of the moment—Adidas Sambas—for an easy weekend look.
SHOP THE LOOK:
The slightly curved slouchy fit makes a refreshing change.
7. Neutral Joggers + Trainers
Style Notes: The tracksuit is still having a moment. Wear with cool trainers and you'll be ready to head out for a daily walk too.
SHOP THE LOOK:
Made from 100% organic cotton, this sweatshirt is a wardrobe staple.
An update on the 2002R, the combo of grey suede and mesh feels so right.
