I'm a Fashion Editor Who's Attended 20+ Baby Showers—I Love These 5 Outfits the Most
I'm at that point in my life where instead of wedding invites being sent my way, I've started to receive more and more invitations to baby showers (and sprinkles). As a proud aunt of nine children, I've already had my fair share of diaper-changing competitions just in my family, and then when you count how many of my friends have had babies, you might consider me a baby shower expert. (Yes, I know the average cost of most baby items, can complete any nursery rhyme lyric, and can randomly list the most outrageous baby facts. Thank you, baby shower games!)
While my knowledge of baby trivia may be of service to you I'm really here to share my fashion expertise as an editor and frequent baby shower attendee on what to wear if you're attending one soon. Unlike weddings, where the rules and dress codes can easily become complicated or confusing, it's much easier to get dressed for a baby shower. Unless specified on the invitation, you're inclined to wear whatever silhouette that helps you feel comfortable. However, some things to take note of are the party's theme and venue. If you're still unsure and want to prepare, be sure to reach out to the host for more details when you send your RSVP.
If you've never been to a baby shower before or simply can't wrack your brain for the perfect outfit, look no further. Below, I share the best outfit formulas to wear to your next baby shower, whether it's a festive garden party or a casual brunch.
For bridal and baby showers alike, you can do no wrong with a floral midi dress. Instead of a traditional floral mini or maxi, opt for one that has interesting details like lace appliqués or puffy sleeves. And instead of strappy sandals, finish the look off with heeled mules!
If the event is lowkey and the vibe leans more casual, keep things simple with a crisp white T-shirt and skirt. If you want to elevate the look further, switch out the cotton skirt for a satin or printed option.
People usually resort to pastels for baby showers, but if the theme has leeway for some vibrancy, I say go with the bright color!
For those who like to get creative with their looks, try a statement top and skirt instead of a dress. The silhouette of the bubble skirt is alone enough to win you best dressed, but the puffy top and Mary-Jane flats really seal the deal.
For a more formal event, a drop-waist dress is a quick and easy way to look elegant.
