VB Just Wore the Easy Autumn Colour Combination Everyone in Our Office Loves
The Sunday of London Fashion Week has become quite a special day in the catwalk schedule ever since Victoria Beckham decided to pick up her show from New York and bring it onto her home turf three seasons ago. In the lead-up to the runway, we spend the week watching out for clues on social media about what the collection will look like, whether full Team Beckham will be out in force (very few editors—even the coolest ones—can resist looking out for them on the FROW and subsequently try and take a casual snap) and what VB will choose to wear for her runway bow.
It's the latter that we know sets the scene for her new-season outfit choices and, in general, a key trend that many of us will end up wearing. We remember when, back in September 2018, she chose to pair a camel blazer with tailored trousers and it became a look that started to infiltrate Instagram and the high street not long after. There are influencers, and then there is Victoria.
So what was today's catwalk collection and spotlight outfit all about? Keep reading to see…
In the run-up to the show this week, Victoria captured a couple of behind-the-scenes outfits that felt distinctly 1970s in their theme—this zig-zagged shirt and brown flares being typical of the decade.
Next came this retro jumper–and–red bootcut combination. VB has long been a supporter of this lean trouser silhouette, pairing it with heels to give the effect of even longer legs. The spring 2020 collection stayed true to the shape, with all trousers on the runway following these lines only in different, more muted colours and often worn with slick blazers over chiffon blouses or fine-gauge knits—the range's tailored option for when the collection's diaphanous dresses feel too whimsical.
Just moments the show VB posted these cute snaps with her daughter and "number one guest" Harper Beckham. The '70s theme continued both on and off the runway, with the designer choosing a particularly classic autumnal colour combination many of us in the office have already been thinking about trying out for the new season.
A blush blouse and burgundy flares adhered to her new trouser-and-top formula but felt like the kind of easy throw-on pairing one could easily rely upon for work.
Completing the relaxed vibes with a messy bun, her new subtle ear piercings and what will undoubtedly be makeup from her newly launched Victoria Beckham Beauty range, VB's head-to-toe look will undoubtedly be copied by many a woman next week—us included.
There are similar pieces available on her brand's website right now, but we've also found these hues elsewhere on planet fashion, so you can re-create the look and shirt-trouser formula in other ways.
