I'm a 54-Year-Old Stylist and Cherish These 8 Timeless Items Most in My Closet
Developing your personal style is an intimate journey that can evolve over time. While everyone's sartorial sensibilities are different and unique in their own right, it can sometimes be intriguing to learn more about how others define their style for inspiration. Today, we thought we'd learn more from Roz Kaur. She's a stylist who has been working in the industry for years. She also happens to be 54 years old. Like us, she believes that age has nothing to do with what you should or shouldn't wear.
"Each of us women is unique and beautiful," she said. "We each have a voice, a purpose, and a statement to make. I use style to express mine." On that note, we thought we'd inquire more to hear about some of the pieces she cherishes to help create her forward aesthetic. "These functional, beautiful, and adaptable pieces make me feel comfortable, confident, and myself," she explained.
Without further ado, keep scrolling to uncover the timeless items Kaur often wears the most in her wardrobe. If one of the general pieces catches your eye, you can also shop them for yourself.
1. Pearls
"This special string of pearls [my mother's pearls] has made its way through generations. She recently gave it to me. It may not be valuable in terms of money, but there's so much value in the stories that came with it. I know I will cherish it forever and one day pass it down to my daughter. I love to throw it over my basic white tee for an outfit that tells a real story."
2. Blazer
"Every season, every occasion, everywhere, the blazer is a classic that goes with absolutely everything. It elevates everything and never gets old."
3. Investment Handbag
"I love my Chanel Classic Double-Flap Handbag, as it's the canniest of my investments and will likely outlive me."
4. Oversize Sunglasses
"While I get to show my fun side by injecting color, decoration, and general playfulness to a function-skewed pair of readers, I like to stick to an understated architectural shape when choosing my sunglasses."
5. Heeled Sandals
"Everyone needs at least one pair of standout, streamlined high-heeled sandals to turn any outfit into an evening one. I definitely get a lot of pleasure out of heels, and I find these Stuart Weitzmans to be very appealing."
6. Jersey Dress
"The ideal dress should be easy, comfortable, and far from froufrou. The fabric should be of the utmost importance, as the dress has to feel good and chic. A jersey dress can be rolled into a ball to take on vacation or packed away only to find it a year still looking au courant."
7. Combat Boots
"Whether you wear a pair of tried-and-true Dr. Martens or sport a high-fashion luxury label, this one versatile style can be worn with everything. I love wearing mine with wide-leg jeans and dresses alike."
8. Biker Jacket
"This is an investment you'll never regret because it's a piece you'll love wearing with everything and forever. Just stick with old-school detailing!"
Next, check out the fall basics that feel outdated this year (and those that don't).
