8 Summer Trends That Will Keep Working Hard for Months to Come
While I’m in no rush to say goodbye to summer (I’m enjoying these long warm weekends by the pool way too much), as we approach mid-August there’s no doubt fall is officially on my mind. And as a fashion editor whose been analyzing the fall trends since they hit the runways back in February, I’m more than excited to get stuck into some new-season styles.
Luckily, there are a handful of summer trends (you may have already got your hands on) or you still want to shop, that will continue their popularity into fall. In other words, these summer trends I’ve listed below will keep working hard in your wardrobe for the months to come—perhaps with the addition of some layers and a change of shoes as the temps start to cool.
So if you are looking to add some new pieces that will serve you for the rest of the summer and fall, then keep scrolling as I share the styles that are worth buying (or you may already own) that will have you looking altogether on trend for the season ahead.
White Tank Tops
Don't set aside your tank tops too quickly. The humble basic had a major moment on the F/W 22 runways—particularly at Prada where it was styled with embellished skirts, and Mary-Janes. Just add a cozy cardigan or cool bomber jacket once the temps start to cool down.
Shop:
Maxi Hemlines
'90s minimalism continues its popularity into fall, including long maxi length skirts and dresses in column silhouettes. If you haven't yet invested in a long sleek skirt then this is the perfect time as they're so easy to wear in summer and fall.
Shop:
Ballet Flats
Yes, ballet flats are back in business and we couldn't be happier. The classic shoes have already been spotted on cool girls all over Instagram this summer and they're easy to wear with jeans or dresses once fall hits (preferably with scrunched socks if you want to go full on balletcore as seen at Miu Miu).
Shop:
Button-Down Shirts
Cool, oversize button-downs have undoubtedly been a summer staple for the fashion crowd this season—the perfect lightweight layering piece over tank tops and bikinis. Come fall the styling possibilities are endless but we particularly love them worn under a cool bomber jacket as seen on the Louis Vuitton F/W 22 runway.
Shop:
Sheer
One trend that dominated the fall runways were pretty, sheer feminine pieces—adding a sexy touch to autumnal ensembles. They're of course, great for warm summer evenings too.
Shop:
Mini Hemlines
In contrast to the maxi hemlines I mentioned earlier, short skirts have had a major moment this summer—and they're not going anywhere this fall—as spotted all over the runways from Miu Miu to Versace. Just add boots and tights when the leaves start to turn brown.
Silky Slip Dresses
We love it when we can continue wearing a summer dress into fall—and this season it's all about the silky slip dress. Just add a cozy sweater and boots (as seen at Bottega Veneta) when it gets cooler.
Shop:
Loose & Relaxed Jeans
The denim trend fashion girls love is here to stay—and perfect for the fall season ahead. If you've been wearing your relaxed jeans with bikini tops and tank tops this season, then swap them for a sleek knit come fall. And a fun going out top paired with loose jeans as seen at Versace will be the perfect pairing once holiday season hits.
