I've Seen This Fall Basic Everywhere—It's to the Point Where I'm Buying It Too
There’s one simple fall item I’ve been seeing all over the feeds of some of my favorite fashion follows. Yes, I am, in fact, referring to the striped sweater. When I recently opened my Saved folder on IG, I legit counted 10 outfit ideas I liked that featured the trusty elevated basic. It makes perfect sense, really. A striped sweater—typically one that’s cream with navy stripes or the reverse—is highly versatile. It also has a low-key vibe (especially in a relaxed silhouette) that instantly makes an ensemble feel effortless in that "je ne sais quoi" kind of way.
Fun fact: I typically go for a classic knit in a solid neutral, but I actually ordered a striped sweater because I’ve been so inspired by the chic looks in question. For reference, I got this A+ option from Alex Mill. So with all that in mind, I rounded up standout outfits featuring the easy-to-style basic. Keep scrolling for a range of some of the best striped sweaters to shop.
All about a three-in-one outfit like this with the blazer, sweater, and tank.
A collared striped sweater is polished when teamed with high-waisted trousers. Sneakers bring an unexpected element to the look.
This is an A+ silhouette featuring the oversize sweater with a skirt and simple shoes.
Here I am in my new sweater by Alex Mill. I love the slouchier fit with light-wash jeans.
A darker striped sweater is chic tucked into loose jeans and a trend-forward belt.
A turtleneck striped sweater is elevated with trousers and a coordinating blazer. Loafers complete the vibe.
Try a ribbed sweater tucked into a skirt, jeans, or pants for a simple yet chic look.
This oversize sweater is gorgeous with wide-leg pants. While this outfit showcases sandals, it would look just as great with boots for the season.
The beauty of a striped sweater is that you can pair it with simple items and have a standout look.
Team your favorite striped sweater with leggings to keep it comfy and cool.
Here’s one more easy ’fit with of-the-moment dark jeans, that go-to knit, and classic Converse sneakers.
