I Haven't Worn This Elegant Skirt in Forever, but It's Trending Hard Again

Whilst recent seasons have been dominated by micro minis, asymmetrical pleats and billowy cotton skirts, my allegiance will forever stand with the classic slip skirt. With the ability to impart a sophisticated edge, the relaxed, delicately draped style balances cool nonchalance with supreme elegance every single time. As we move closer to spring/summer and away from winter, I've been assessing my wardrobe, evaluating the items that no longer resonate and paying attention to which styles can truly stand the test of time. This recent deep dive led me to realise that of all my skirts, it's the classic slip that continues to finesse my outfits with more charm and elegance than any of its sister styles.

I'm not the only one standing by this silky staple. Whilst influencers boast wardrobes brimming with new-season trends, I've spotted so many of my favourites continue to come back to this timeless style, season after season, year after year.

It's versatile too; the lightweight skirt looks elegant with a chunky knit and knee-high boots in the winter, but there's no reason to reserve the wardrobe hero for until then. Style with a simple button-up and loafers on cooler days, or wear with a plain t-shirt and ballet flats on warmer days.

With skirts trending upwards for 2024—there were 33% more of them on the spring/summer 2024 runways compared to 2023—it's little wonder that the slip-skirt trend is already taking off in the early days of the year.
