Thousands of Steps Later, We Can Confirm These Sandals Are the Most Comfortable

We firmly believe that flat sandals should be a respite from our pain-inducing heels, which is why we decided to seek out the most comfortable sandals on the market. We didn't forget the style factor either, because although we'd love to wear Birkenstocks with everything, we were more focused on picking out the sandals that can easily go with your planned summer looks.

This time around, we gathered a short list of the best sandals that have upheld their comfort promises. 1. Ciao Lucia x Margaux The Palermo Sandal

"It's no secret that flat thong sandals can be extremely uncomfortable to wear while traversing the city. However, these special-edition Ciao Lucia x Margaux sandals are the exception. I've honestly never had a pair of sandals be so comfortable out of the box—they fit true to size, the straps are adjustable, and the footbed is lightly padded. But what really cemented them as the most comfortable sandals in my collection was the fact that after running between three previews, a lunch, and then back to the office in them, I didn't feel any discomfort." — Jasmine Fox-Suliaman, Editor

2. Madewell The Danika Knotted Sandal

"I recently went on a trip that required a lot of walking—roughly 15,000+ steps a day—and was surprised that these Madewell sandals cushioned my feet through it all! I was skeptical because there was one negative review, and it is a newly released style, but I'm glad I trusted my intuition. Plus, the red is such a good pop of color in an outfit and the netting detail kind of gives them a bit of a Row look to me. A win across the board!" — Yusra Siddiqui, Associate Editor

3. The Row Fisherman Sandals

"Don't ask me why, but I hate open-toe sandals on me. This really limits my options come summer, but these fisherman sandals have done me very, very well over the years. I've easily walked over 10,000 steps in these without getting any blisters or pain in my feet. I love them so much that I'm considering buying the black pair as well. They are a splurge, but I've had these for more than two years, and they're still my go-to whenever the weather is nice. The cost per wear must be in the single digits by now!" — Caitie Schlisserman, Executive Director of Branded Content

4. Ancient Greek Kansiz Sandals

"These strappy, thick-soled shoes from Ancient Greek Sandals easily take top billing in my closet for the most comfortable sandals. They have a soft, rubbery finish and cushioned soles that translate to maximum comfort. They easily work for a beach look on vacation, but I also like to pair them with cocktail dresses for a casual take on an evening look." — Kristen Nichols, Associate Director of Special Projects

5. Zara Velvet Sandals

"Flip-flops are shaping up to be the must-have summer sandal style, so naturally, I had to secure a cute and comfortable pair before the season. After browsing Zara.com, I landed on its Flat Velvet Sandals, which caught my eye because of the not-so-basic fabrication and luxe red wine hue. I wore them for the first time on a day of farmers-market hopping and can attest to their immense comfort level. The padded insole and soft velvet material—even between the toes—make them perfect for a day spent on your feet. I can't wait to wear them with skirts and dresses or straight-leg jeans on a brisk summer evening." — Nikki Chwatt, Associate Fashion Editor

6. Havaianas You Metallic Sandal

"In my opinion, it's hard to beat simple Havaianas flip-flops if you're looking for comfort, affordability, and practicality. I slide them on every single day to walk my dog and can confirm they've never given me blisters. Plus, flip-flops are Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen–approved, so what's not to love?" — Erin Fitzpatrick, Associate Director of Fashion News

7. Steve Madden Kylen Sandal

"I love an affordable shoe find, and my latest discovery is from none other than Steve Madden. These feel a bit more elevated than other flip-flops thanks to the leather material and the platform sole, but more importantly, they required zero breaking in. I'm sure podiatrists will disapprove, but I have in fact walked at least two to three consecutive miles in these flip-flops on multiple occasions." — Michaela Bushkin, Fashion Director
