Michelle Obama Is Actually Comfy Shoes' Biggest Champion

Go searching for any memorable Michelle Obama ensemble during the last eight or so years and chances are you’ll see a lot of heels. But don’t be fooled; FLOTUS does not have time for shoes that don’t allow you to take on the day full force. In fact, she might just rather you take off your shoes altogether if they’re holding you back.

The proof of this comes in a Footwear News interview with Spanx founder Sara Blakely in which the entrepreneur recalls meeting Obama. After waiting in line for too long, wearing too-painful shoes, for her chance to greet the first lady, Blake couldn’t help but tell her about how much her feet were hurting. “She goes, ‘Girl, my feet are killing me, too,’” recounts Blake to Footwear News. “I asked if I can take my shoes off and she said, ‘Yes, and you can tell anyone who tells you to put them back on that Mrs. Obama said you can take them off.’”

While we can’t say we’ve seen many photos of Mrs. Obama hanging out barefoot during a White House press event, we do know her as a woman who’s down to earth. And we can’t help but appreciate anyone who shows a true understanding that fashion should make you look and feel good. And if it’s not achieving both, maybe it’s not worth wearing at all.
