We think it’s fair to say leggings might just be one of the wardrobe heroes of the last year. Although this ‘trend’ may have been born more of circumstance than any particular catwalk or street style craze, it is undeniable that a large number of us have been living in this staple over the past year. Whether inventively styled up with a blazer and boots, or just a hoodie and trainers for your daily run, it's leggings to the rescue. Working from home and the varying levels of lockdown have meant that leisure and active wear has inevitably come to the forefront, not only for our ongoing comfort but also because our daily exercise has become the most exciting, and arguably important, part of our day.

So, at this point, when a new active wear line drops, especially one from our favourite high street destination for long-lasting quality basics, we’re all ears. Marks and Spencer’s Goodmove collection launched for the first time last Spring and is back this week for 2021, with updated styles and an expanded repertoire, now catering to men and children too. And if anything is going to get us moving during these cold grey January days, it’s a new outfit.

As usual M&S have pretty much thought of everything with this new collection. There’s practical styles with innovative technology for those of us looking for a bit of January fitness inspiration, mix-and-match layering options perfect for adapting to your chosen exercise, be it indoor Peloton or daily runs in the delightful British weather. But there’s also an excellent selection of day-to-day leisurewear pieces including on-trend fleeces, comfy co-ords and quilted jackets that can be taken from your home desk to the coffee run without feeling like you need to hide your outfit under your puffa (don’t worry, we’ve been there too).

Of course, the legging selection is also extensive, from yoga styles to form fitting seamless numbers, which we’re about to be eternally grateful for as we head into Lockdown 3.0. Special mention goes to the trainers too, which we wouldn’t automatically think to head to the high street for. The brand have worked hard on their offering, though, using signature Insolia® and Light as Air™ technology for comfort, as well as championing sustainable fabrications for their designs, like Tencel and hard-wearing Cordura.
