The One Pair of '90s Shoes That Are Best Sellers in 2017
They say what goes around comes around, and no one knows that sentiment better than iconic footwear designer Manolo Blahnik. His shoes are long beloved by fashion girls everywhere and declared the only brand that graces Anna Wintour's feet: “I can’t remember the last time I wore anybody else’s shoes. I don’t even look at them,” she says in the trailer for the designer's forthcoming documentary, Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards. Blahnik has been a cornerstone in footwear long enough to witness the regeneration of vintage styles for the present day. And yet, his beloved designs stand the test of time.
"Case in point: The Maysale, his update of the wildly successful Pilgrim mule he made for Mizrahi in 1990," Footwear News noted in a recent interview with the designer for the film. The kitten heel mule has defined this season's obsession with both pointed-toe mules and kitten-heeled shoes of all styles. We've seen designers quote from this decade ever more frequently, but none have captivated us quite like the Maysale mules. Blahnik muses, “It’s such a wonderful thing to do mules again, and now it’s the best-selling shoe of the whole summer. We have waiting lists in Madrid.”
