There's one item that's been consistently popping up on my Instagram feed and in street style photos, and it has officially grabbed my attention: the long denim skirt. Yes, maxi skirts have been trending this season, but denim ones specifically are having a serious moment. Most are high waisted, but mid- and low-rise styles are available too. There's something about them that gives off a '70s-inspired bohemian vibe, but you can also make them look modern and bring them into the year 2024 with sophisticated handbags, classic white button-down shirts, stylish high heels, or colorful accessories.

A long denim skirt happens to be a great transitional piece to add to your wardrobe, as it provides more leg coverage. Many also have a slit for extra airflow, and you can pair it with everything from tanks to sweaters, sneakers to boots. This skirt style was seen in recent runway shows from Altuzarra, Fendi, Ulla Johnson, and Marni, proving that it's here to stay—until next season at the very least. Here, I've rounded up seven long-denim-skirt outfit ideas to get you inspired and even more maxi and midi denim skirts that are definitely worth adding to your wardrobe. Your go-to jeans just might be replaced once you see them.

An oversize white button-down with a black clamshell bag and mules makes this one a very classic look.

This is almost a Canadian tuxedo, but you swap out your jeans for a long denim skirt. Complement it with bright white sunglasses and a shoulder bag.

Leather Jacket + White T-Shirt + White Denim Maxi Skirt + Knee-High Boots

Don't be afraid to opt for a long denim skirt in a different wash, such as white, to have it stand out even more. Bonus points if you take a cue from the outfit above by keeping your color palette neutral.

Leather Jacket + Polo + Denim Maxi Skirt + Western Boots

Lean into the Western aesthetic of your denim skirt by styling it with other Americana-coded staples such as a polo top, cowboy boots, and a leather jacket.

After finally getting an internship at Town & Country in 2015, she moved to New York City and continued to get her footing in the industry with stints at Cosmopolitan, W magazine, Harper's Bazaar, and Moda Operandi. In 2017, she returned to Cosmo full time, starting off as the beauty and fashion editorial assistant and working her way to fashion editor. She contributed to both the website and print issues, pitching new ideas, forecasting trends, covering red carpet events, and informing the overall coverage and brand voice. After five years in NYC, she moved to the West Coast for the sunshine and the change of pace. As a freelance fashion editor, she still contributes to Cosmo and now Who What Wear. She's always trying to get ahead of the next big trend before it goes mainstream and loves discovering fashion brands with a unique point of view (Chopova Lowena, Sandy Liang, and Bode being some of her current favorites). She also spends an unhealthy amount of time online shopping for the perfect piece, and now that she's in L.A., she's rediscovering her soft spot for malls. On the weekends, you can find her walking around the Silver Lake Reservoir, trying to catch up on her tan at Venice Beach, and probably ordering a Chinese chicken salad at Joan's on Third.
